One place that I was so glad was still there was the Canterbury Museum. Christchurch's history would have been lost if this building did not survive the earthquake. Those priceless pieces that tell a story are all irreplaceable - great to see them still there.

Doesn't like those big museum in other country, I would say this is just a small museum but the local. But it still worth to go, first they are free to visit and you can found something about how the Moari live in NZ.

Thank urchinray

Because of the earthquake, there was only two exhibit rooms open. They were nice, but it did not take long to look at the exhibits.

As at Sept 12 only half the museum is open, but they have an excellent display of the history of NZ and Canterbury. There is also an earthquake exibit at the moment which shows what the locals have had to endure for the past 2 years. Should be even better when they can reopen the upper floors.

The canterbury Musem has a lot to offer, but you do need a lot of time to get right around the whole complex.
It is very large but does have a lot of very interesting displays of all kinds
Last time we visited there was a new area being set up ,so by now that should be in place.
If Museums are what you like doing ,them this one is worth a visit if you come to Christchurch.

Thank Graeme P
