The canterbury Musem has a lot to offer, but you do need a lot of time to get right around the whole complex.
It is very large but does have a lot of very interesting displays of all kinds
Last time we visited there was a new area being set up ,so by now that should be in place.
If Museums are what you like doing ,them this one is worth a visit if you come to Christchurch.

Most of the upper levels are still closed for earthquake works, but the ground level of this wonderful museum is back open again. The 19th century Christchurch street has always been a fun walk-through, and the brilliant earthquake exhibit is a must-see for Christchurch visitors. There are lot of written accounts and displays (more than I could read with two small children - I wish I could have had another visit on my own to read more) but also artifacts, many of which will be recognized by those who visited Chch pre-earthquakes, video footage, and lots of information about the rebuilding efforts. Your visit may not be a long one, given the small number of galleries currently open, but it will be a very worthwhile one.

I really enjoyed this museum. It is one of the best I have visited. Beautiful items to browse through and a great display of Maori items as well.

The earthquake exhibit is well worth your time and donation. allow at least forty minutes to walk through. We were advised twenty minutes would be long enough, only had twenty minutes and had to walk through quickly and missed a lot
