The botanic gardens are really nice even it's autumn/winter now. I think it would be much more beautiful in spring/summer.

Located right next to Christ College, the Botanical Garden covers about a tenth of the total greens of Christchurch. With some stunning scenery and autumn colours (we went in early May), a few water bodies, ducks and local birds, we had a wonderful energising 1 hour walking around the park. The Canterbury Museum is located right at the entrance, as also an I-Site with all tickets to attractions, information et al.
Highly recommended for the connect with nature, especially if you come from cities where verdant greenery and lovely walking parks are not too common.

We walked around the botanic gardens on our final morning in NZ. It was a haven, and good to be away from all the work being done to start to rebuild the city. We had walked around the city the previous day, which was a quite depressing to see all the devastation. The botanic gardens were a welcome relief and good to see that nature has the ability to survive such devastating earthquakes.
