The museum and staff are great and all the exhibits are clearly labelled and the memorial wall is awesome.

It was poignant coming here on Anzac Day and seeing and talking to some of the WW2 veterans. This is an interesting place to come and learn about the history of the RNZAF and the development of aviation. I’m amazed at the courage of those early aviators and what they were prepared to fly in. The kids enjoyed the Mosquito simulator. Worth spending 1-2 hours nosing around.

A very well done museum, both informative and fun. Good for all ages, take advantage of the guided tours as well as the new behind the scenes look at the history of the RNZAF and some the planes. Thoroughly enjoyable.

We were trying to kill some time over the Easter Weekend and started at the Wigram Air Museum. Admission is free and we thought it would be good to kill an hour or so. Four hours later I had to be dragged away for a meeting that we had planned with family.

Despite the free admission there is a $10 tour of Hangars behind the scenes where restoration work is being carried out or replicas are being created of the old crates. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and the one hour set aside for the tour disappears quickly. There are some lovely old aircraft in the hangars being painstakingly restored using old lost techniques for creating or replacing parts.

There are some fine exhibits of aircraft, famous NZ Pilots and equipment used in both wars. If you get tired or hungry the on site cafe is stocked with whatever takes your fancy and is better fair than usually obtained at other tourist attractions without a huge prices.

Once you have done the tour, looked at the array of aircraft in the display hangars and had a nice lunch then try your hand at the Mosquito Simulator. The cost was $5.00 for 5 minutes and allows the Pilot to choose whether to use arcade controls (steer using column only), Arcade plus Power (column + throttle) or Full Flight (for experienced pilots).

My partner and I spent a lovely afternoon without any problem and enjoyed ourselves.

We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
