We stayed here two weeks after staying at The Marque (also reviewed). The contrast for similar room rates was considerable. At the Heritage we found solicitous staff who were on hand as soon as we parked our rental car outside. The room was spacious and beautifully furnished and the public spaces are impressive and welcoming. The location could not be better, on Cathedral Square. Full marks on all fronts provided you get the bargain rates!

Four of us recently stayed in the old government building in a two bedroom suite. We instantly fell in love with the charm of the tastefully renovated old girl. It is a beautifully restored old building. Facilities were very clean and comfortable. Well equipped gym. Really enjoyed our meal in the dining room one night. It did get hot one night even though we opened the window. I guess if you want the charm it is a small price to pay. I will return.

We stopped in this hotel November 2010 and was the first hotel of many we were due to stop in during our stay in New Zealand. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a suite and were not dissapointed.
The suite was large and had all mod cons, the room was nicely decorated and immacutely clean. There were several nice little things that had been thought of and the staff were both friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a great location from which to explore Christchurch and I would definately recomend this hotel. Brilliant.

booked a suite in the old government buildings in the front as a surprise for wifes birthday. Allocated a suite facing the street.
Building tastfully renovated bathrooms getting tired and need of a makeover, the rooms are NOT airconditioned (which I would expect from a 4 star hotel) and therefore the window needs to be open to get some ventilation. The noise is something else, even with the window closed it is no better- when I asked about 10.30pm for ear plugs they did not have any, at 11.30pm we protested again and were relucately moved a a suite in the back of the building. Fine until the service lane was used by a procession of delivery trucks starting at 4.00am.
Hotel excuse is that they were not able to a/cond - rubbish!!
A terrible night.
Not a hotel I would recommend or ever consider again.

Dear peterwellington,

I'm sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expecations. Next time you may be more comfortable in our Tower wing, as those rooms do have air conditioning and tend to be quieter. You can request this for your next booking, or if you could get in touch with me on the email provided below, we will update your account with this preference.

Thank you for your feedback.

Kind regards,
Gary Jarvis

We stayed in a suite which was huge, located in the old government building with vast high ceilings and a mezzanine level for bed and bathroom. It is a bit tired but has lots of charm and for what we paid we were pleased. Comfy bed and good facilities as you'd expect from big hotel

Stayed in the Penthouse Suite No: 1205 which had superb views of Christchurch from its balcony. The location of the hotel is perfect right in the corner of Cathedral Square and if you have a hire car there is no problem getting a space right in front of the hotel doors to load / unload your car. Highly recommended.

The hotel is very nice and the staff are great.

I had just had surgery and they were very good with getting me a chair for the shower and dealing with our bags.

Me and my friends stayed in the two bed suite which was great nice view very roomy good tv etc, and more than helpful when we needed more towels plates etc.

How ever the next day we got married and yet again great with moving over bags to the next room , and getting my car etc.

The new room which was the upgrade suiet was ok the window opened on to a view of other buildings ,made me feel sad and it was such a shame because the other view was awesome.
The bathroom was ok shower over bath were the other room had a bath and shower ,much nicer.
The tv remote would not work properly, such a pain , when i was still sore from my op and had to keep getting up to make it work.

And the bed wow it was big ,but man it was the worst bed i have slept on in a hotel , it was 2 beds ziped together.

As i have said the staff are great ,I didnt want to complain as we had just got married , and had had enough drama with my cancer and the earth quakes, but looking back i wish I did as all I wanted to do the whole time was go home and sleep in my bed with a new tv that would work and look out my window at the view.

Dear genieliz

I am sorry to hear that the upgraded room was disappointing on this occasion. Please ensure that you advise us of your preference of room style, with a request for a city view, when next making a reservation with us and we will endeavour to accommodate your request.

I do hope that you are recovering well from your surgery.

I appreciate your comments with regard to the great service you received from our staff during your stay and recognition has been given to the team on this basis.

Regards,
Gary Jarvis
