Camelot Motor Lodge
Ranked #61 of 146 Hotels in Christchurch
Reviewed April 7, 2013

This is the first time I have posted a comment on tripadvisor and felt I had to place some feedback for an excellent stay at the Camelot Motor Lodge in Christchurch. We have been fortunate enough to travel around New Zealand over the last six years. I can honestly say that Camelot is the best ever motel we have ever stayed in. The attention to detail is amazing. All the little touches that you only expect to see in the large top hotels around the world.
The room was immaculate and clean every day, like a brand new room each time.
Soft towels, a lovely shower, decent coffee, not the horrible cheap stuff and even sweetners!
The front of house reception was warm and genuine and you were not treated like just another punter.
Well done Brian and long may you prosper!

I stayed in an apartment equipped for 7 people.. it had 3 single beds downstairs and a double bed and two singles upstairs. The vaulted ceilings meant that it was quite hard to heat as most of the hot air escaped and it was a large space to heat. The bathroom was very basic and if all the beds had been filled it would have been quite a queue for it, plus as it was off the downstairs bathroom those upstairs would have to disturb those in the bedroom downstairs to use it. The kitchen was well equipped and there were heaters and a good size table and chairs and lounge suite. What I really didn't like though was the bedroom window looked straight into the bar and smokers area of the hotel/conference centre next door. This meant that I kept the curtains shut constantly so they couldn't see in, and similarly in the lounge the windows looked straight out onto the reception area of the hotel where many people gathered waiting for it to open, milk, taxis and the like. There were no net curtains or blinds so the only way to stop people looking in on you was to have the curtains shut all the time even when it was broad daylight outside.

Room Tip: Dont have the apartment opposite reception or on the corner near the road as they are noisy and get...

We had a wonderful stay here. The real plus factor was the owners who were extremely helpful with suggestions for sightseeing etc- nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely and the location very convenient, with good restaurants close by and only a short walk into the centre of Christchurch. Excellent!

I have been there only for one night but I can tell that: it was well maintained, the room was very clean and the staff was more than polite! Loved the place and they make me love Christchurch even more than I would anyway do! I wish I could rate this business more than excellent. Thank you again Manu.

We stayed here for 3 nights, a week between the first 2 and the last 1. The rooms are small but reasonably well laid out with an ensuite bathroom and a small galley style kitchenette.

Located a short walk (10 min.) from the center of Christchurch and several restaurants (5 min.). Approximately 25 - 35 min. from the airport Camelot has a lot going for it, not even including the unusual Ye Olde England touches the architecture has.

The owners are friendly and knowledgable and quick to respond to any inquiries.

We stayed here for two nights. Very clean and well stocked kitchen, bathroom shower etc were all good, though room was a bit dark and old fashioned. Very comfortable bed. The Camelot King Arthur theme is a bit strange but other than that, good marks all round. The owners were very friendly and helpful with directions, restaurant suggestions etc. Position of this motel is very good for Hagley Park and botanical gardens are only a 15 min walk away.

Booked this hotel through a third party site 2 days in advance. As hotel rooms in Christchurch are still extremely hard to come by on short notice, due to the 2011 earthquake, was lucky to find this one.
Upon arrival, turns out the third party site was out of date and the hotel did not have any more rooms available. The two managers/owners told us this on arrival, not being able to reach us sooner. But they also told us they had spent the entire day looking for alternative accommodation. And they had found us the very last available room in Christchurch. Really the last one, as further online searches on multiple sites had proved. The hotel they sent us was of equal good quality. Many thanks to the owners for providing this level of service to guests who aren't even staying there. Can only imagine what their service is like if you do get a room there (book early!)
