“Very Pleasant Stay!”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

We spent 5 nights at the Argyle and can highly recommend it. We were impressed that, for the same price as many other 'studio rooms' at other motels, we got a separate bedroom, thus enabling one of us to go to bed and the other to continue watching TV. The lounge area made it easy to entertain a guest and the small kitchen table made eating takeaway more pleasant than just perching on the side of a bed as we've done at other motels! Bruce & Maggie were very friendly and helpful. Despite being on Deans Avenue, near Riccarton Road, we weren't disturbed by traffic noise. (We stayed in Room 5 near the back of the property.)

A great, friendly, helpful stay! Very close to the hospital and town centre. A lovely room including separate kitchen, bathroom, lounge and bedroom. Fantastic shower and fluffy towels. Wonderful king size bed and delicious breakfast brought to our room. Wi-Fi provided and a spa pool available although unfortunately we didn't have time to try. A very reasonable tariff. Hosts Bruce and Maggie were very welcoming!

Although a little hard to get to from the north due to the road layout, my wife and I found this motel to very welcoming and helpful. Advice on the state of Christchurch after the earthquakes of 2011 and 2012 was accurate and very easy to use. Local eating places were abundant and the hosts seemed to be able to advise on suitable meals to suit our tastes for the night.

We had driven in from Akaroa via Pigeon Bay and the hosts knew that route well, asking how we had liked it. They seemed very genuinely interested in our travels and were surprised that a local guide in Akaroa claimed that the road did not exist

All up, Argyle on the Park will be a choice the next time I visit Christchurch.

Stayed for one night and was very satisfied with the cleanliness and the service provided. A leather sofa was provided in the room, together with comfortable beds. The owner even provided a very welcome bottle of milk on arrival

While the condition of this motel is quite old fashioned, the units are very spacious, very comfortable and have a full kitchen. There is a separate bedroom with a very comfortable Queen bed and quite a large flat screen TV. There is an even larger flat screen TV in the lounge area, with Sky. The unit has a full kitchen (4-ring stove plus microwave), and a small dining table. The bathroom is small, but functional. It is very good value for money.

Stayed here three times in a three week holiday and was really impressed by the hotel. The hosts, Maggie and Bruce, treated us like family and were very helpful with everything. Unfortunately there was no bath in the family rooms, so be prepared for that if your young ones do not like showers. The location was perfect for our needs, and a walk through the gardens to the Art Centre / CBD / Restart. Took us about 30 minutes to walk it, but can take longer if you are taking in the beauty of the botanic gardens, or have young children unwilling to walk. The kitchen in the room had everything you need to cook your own meals, or if you are wanting a decent meal then there are plenty of restaurants and fast food choices close by. We stayed in the room with a double in the living room and 3 singles in a separate room (Room 8 twice and Room 2), the double bed was very comfortable and we had no complaints from our 4 year old about the single bed. There is Cable TV in the main room with a fair amount of channels, and another TV in the "kids" room. This is just tuned to the free to air programmes but you could easily hook up a dvd or laptop to it.

Wireless internet was available for $10 a day and was better than the previous hotel we had stayed at by a country mile.

Only issue we had was the road noise (Boy racers) but this was only around the weekend, and did not really affect our sleep.

Thanks for the wonderful stays

We stayed at this establishment at the start (arrival) and end (departure) of our South Island trip. This place of accommodation holds an enormous amount of character and was warm and cosy for our first frosty New Zealand winter evening. The hosts were very helpful and also provided a great deal of valuable information. If needed the staff/management are easily contactable via a in-house phone service and also provide speedy internet upon request (there is a small but reasonable fee). While exploring Christchurch my partner and I encountered a few unpleasant people around the red zone. This location is far enough away to escape from the bustling chaos of the "rebuild" that is currently taking place in the city centre. While staying here you could possibly not even realise that Christchurch is undergoing major repairs to reverse the effects of a major earthquake. It is still well within distance of exploring the limited but available tourist destinations left in the area. There is also plenty of nearby food places and other stores if needed all just a five minute walk away.

All in all our experience in Christchurch was saved by the lovely owners at this establishment. If traveling or even stopping by for a night or two, I can assure you that you will be adequately taken care of!

Thankyou from Dan and Stef

Room Tip: Downstairs rooms are great as stairs can be a pain with lots of luggage.
