We stayed here for our last 2 nights in NZ. The room was neat and tidy but, being on a major road, was a little noisy and light at night. The staff were pleasant and the room was well appointed. It was close to the park and within walking distance of the city centre. A good choice of place to stay while in transit but I probably would not stay here if it were my first trip to Christchurch.

I had booked this motel for my first night and my final night on the South Island for around NZ$110. It was a $32 (10 minute) cab ride from the airport. Nice looking motel from the road, cheerful check-in at a very early 8am which was appreciated.

The motel (which I understand has been for sale for a year), is a family affair. A couple of kids playing outside the ground floor unit, enjoying their summer break (as kids do), made a midday snooze impossible.

The room itself had all the usual comforts one expects, but the level of cleanliness left a lot to be desired. Very dusty room, looked like it hadn't been used lately. Items of cutlery in the kitchenette were not clean having greasy slicks on them.

The bed was old and worn, but still comfortable enough, although (what felt like) dust mites had me itching all night, and also made sleeping difficult. There are no services (like breakfast) available but a small 24/7 corner store nearby has most everything you need.

The location couldn't be better really, with pub's and restaurants nearby, Hagley Park is a very short stroll down Riccarton Road, so the city centre is easily walk-able as is the Railway station for Tranz Alpine trips (if you're not lugging too much luggage).

Hopefully this motel will get some new loving owners soon who will take pride in their establishment. The motel is only one good "spring clean" away from being a solid and serviceable motel, but as it stands now, it's not recommended. I even cancelled my reservation for the following week and took a cheaper (cleaner) room elsewhere.
