“Great choice in Christchurch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

Perfect accomodation in Christchurch. The city is deep into rebuild mode, so although there's not much too see in the city, the area is still amazingly beautiful and it feels good to support the city.
I found good service and quality accomodation at Pavilions, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant, which was lovely with generous servings and fresh produce. The coffee is decent too.
Just a note - there is no lift so if you have very heavy luggage, or wheelchair, or pram for babies, I would suggest asking for a room on the bottom level.
Also, one thing I noticed about NZ hotels is they rarely have air conditioning or fans, only windows which you are not supposed to open as it mucks up the central heating. Would not be a problem normally but during our stay there was a mild heat wave and it would have been lovely to have fresh air!

Room Tip: Choose a room on the bottom level if you have heavy luggage, prams, or wheelchair, as there is no li...

We stayed at this hotel twice during our holiday. The first time we had a 'motel' style room and the second time a room in the main building. Both were excellent, clean and large with all you could want in a hotel room. We dined in on our last night and had a very good, if a tad pricey, meal. On our last morning the fire alarm went off, in Christchurch when there's an alarm you don't muck about you get out at top speed, the hotel staff were spot on with the drill and fire engines were on the scene within minutes. Very impressive the way the staff responded, as is the way that New Zealanders in generl have adjusted to their city centre still being a building site after the earthquake in 2011. Pavilions was the best hotel we stayed at on the North Island.

Room Tip: Ask for a 'motel' style room

Thank you so much for taking the time to post a response on our hotel. It is fantastic to hear that we were the best hotel you stayed at during your stay - although I would like to point out we are on the South Island - just so we don't confuse anyone here.

Thank you also for posting the details on our teams response to the fire alarms. Although these can often be annoying it is really if they are a false alarm it is really important that our staff act in the right manner and we do pride ourselves on service and safety of our customers so training in this area is consistent. Its nice to see it all work well - you never know when the real emergency is going to happen.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Pavilions Hotel is well located, particularly in light of the large areas of the city which are inaccessable following the 2011 earthquake. Its an easy walk into the CBD. There's a great cafe just a few meters towards the city serving wonderful breakfasts. We didnt eat at the hotel but it looked inviting - nice ambience. Very friendly and helpful staff and our rooms were extremely comfortable, clean and with full kitchen facilities. We stayed on our arrival in Christchurch and again and the end of our 10 days touring the South Island. Access with luggage was easy as we had ground floor accommodation on both occasions and were able to park right outside our room.

Room Tip: If you have heavy luggage, book a room on ground level to avoid the stairs. Also, the room in which...

Thank you so much for your positive feedback on your stay.
The location certainly is a bonus and it is pleasing you noticed our staff, service and cleanliness of rooms.
Having a kitchen in your room whilst travelling is very worthwhile as it often reduces your costs for breakfast etc if that is what you choose.
Parking can often be a large expense as I have discovered many times during my personal travel so the ability to park outside your room at no charge is a luxury.
We look forward to seeing you again on your next stay here in Christchurch.

We ate in the hotel restaurant here and found the staff very friendly and the food very good and for a hotel surprisingly reasonably priced. Would eat here again.
However we had been travelling several weeks so had heavy luggage which was a problem getting to our room on the second floor as there was no lift. The porter was helpful though so small niggly problem really. The only other comment have is that they did not offer decaff coffee in the room which when you are sensitive to caffine and have to get sleep as have to get up in the middle of the night for a flight was annoying. Reception staff very friendly too.
Wish all of them well with recovery from the earthquake. It must be so difficult to continue to be positive three years down the line and still little seems to have been done with rebuild.

Room Tip: Accept disability room if available - ground floor so less problems with suitcase carrying and lovel...

Thank you for commenting on our fantastic food and staff - it seems to be a very common theme on Trip Advisor and it is very pleasing to see we are getting the results we strive for.

With regards to Decafe coffee, had you called reception we would of delivered some immediatley so I am sorry such a small issue could easily have been avoided.

In addition I am glad our porters were able to assist you with your luggage as it then generally does not create an issue for second floor as you state.

I do hope we will see you again in the future.

Staying at the Pavilions Hotel for our 2 day conference. Very good service and friendly staff. Dinner was great and good atmosphere in the bar for the drinks after dinner. Room is much better than last time I stayed here.

I don't recognize these pic as the hotel where we stayed. we had a room on ground floor.-small but adequate. this must be in the old building as nothing looked updated. we had a chair out our door that was considered our patio.--adequate. we stayed one night. I realize the earthquake has caused a shortage of places to stay and the devastation is seen just walking around Christchurch.
The staff was delightful and the restaurant was excellent and very accommodating. It looked better on the outside than the inside(our room anyway).

I stayed here for one night on two separate occasions. My room was fine (on the first floor of the main building), though I had a real tussle with the key every time I wanted to go in or out, and even had to ask staff for help with it.
The restaurant was good, and I had two enjoyable meals there.
The location is convenient, as you can walk along the river through Hagley Park to the beautiful Botanic Gardens and town centre (still horribly devastated, but a definite must-see).
I'd stay here again, particularly given the pressure on hotel accommodation in Christchurch.

Thank you for taking the time to place a review for us.

We really appreciate the great feedback our restaurant and glad that you enjoyed our food. I agree we are in a perfect location for all visiting Christchurch at this time. Close enough to all the new bars and restaurants opening and a short stroll to City Centre and botanic gardens.

I am sorry for the problems with your keys, we have addressed this issue.

Looking forward to seeing you again in the near future.
