“Huge potential for a great venue”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2013

although you enter a really messy building site to find a car parking space which you would be lucky to find, you will be seriously surprised and pleased when you enter either bar or the restaurant areas. A substantial investment and seriously well laid out and well designed interior will please and make the car parking inconsequential.
We ate in the restaurant for lunch which has a great menu, good staff and service and comfortable tables with a great selection of beers. Food was good, served well and reasonably priced. No doubt this place will be a hit when it is finished with all of the complex of shops and proper parking. However judging by the crowds already in there even whilst its not finished, no one is waiting for the finishing touches to be applied. Great place and a very good investment for Christchurch which really shows how investment in restaurants and leisure should be done. No reservations taken.

“Great destination”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2013 via mobile

Went for lunch on a busy Friday. Beautiful building with the retail shops and car park still under construction.
Good food, but let down by very slow service.. More staff needed to cater for the number of customers.
Will definitely go back and should become a destination when all the retail is open.

“A good stop for pizza and a pint”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2013

Good beer - tick.
Good food - tick.
Good atmosphere - tick.

We visited Cassels & Sons for a pre-cinema meal. Food was good and well priced. The beer to wash it down was excellent.

Only downside was the rotation of waiting staff, our table was visited by three different people asking the same question, but this wasn't a biggie.

Recommend booking as it was busy even at the early time of 6:00pm.

“Innovative, well run, good pub food and beer”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013

The Brewery is a destination in itself, even without the excellent food and beer.It is a bar, brewery, deli-cafe and wood fired pizza restaurant, which hosts live music most nights - and also has a very successful quiz night. Seeing all the brewing setup behind the bar is fascinating, especially the historical items. The food, either by menu or in the display cabinet, is excellent, and there is a great selection of beers. The service we had was excellent, but my friend had had a very poor and impolite experience the week before. Some of the staff need to learn better PR skills.

The Tannery is next door, with a fascinating mall and desirable boutique shops. The Woolston Tannery was built circa 1870 from brick by Gustav Lindstrom, great-great grandfather of one of the Cassels Sons. The Cassels and Sons Brewery building stands on the banks of the Heathcote River.
