“A much needed curry fix”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2014

Having been touring around for nearly three weeks, I was getting almost desperate for a good curry and The Himalayas did not disappoint. The aroma outside draws you into the restaurant which is very clean and well organised. The poppadoms for starters were very thin and dry and quite different from what you get in the UK.
The fish special was nicely spiced and very tasty whilst the chicken madras had a kick to it but was well balanced and not oily as often served in some restaurants. Portion sizes were very generous and the nan bread and rice servings were also substantial.
No room for dessert but my curry cravings were well satisfied.

“Tasty Indian food”

Only had a takeaway meal, but it was cooked quickly to order and was very tasty, with generous portion sizes and spiced just right.

This is the only Indian I have been to that actually gives you medium to hot food when you ask for it.
Spicy and fragrant

“Excellent value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2014

We ate at Himalayas twice whilst in Christchurch as we were staying at motels close-by - both times on a Saturday night. We booked the first time and turned up 'on spec' the second time and were lucky to get a table! The restaurant is very popular with travelers and locals. The staff were really friendly and the food was very tasty. We go for the mild dishes and the flavours were excellent. Plenty of variety to choose from on the menu and good wines and beers to accompany it. Enjoyed the restaurant both times and we thought that it was excellent value for money.

“Mixed review at our table”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2014

My lamb was very tender and the curry sauce was wonderful; my wife's lamb was somewhat grisly. We shared and confirmed each other's assessment. The restaurant was rather empty (usually a bad sign), but there was quite a parade of folks there for take away (usually a good sign).
