Wait staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, food was delicious, although the whitebait was largely a batter experience. More whitebait is required!

This restaurant has a very accommodating staff and the food is pretty good as well. Compared with it's nearby Merivale competitors the Leinster Bistro represents reasonable value for money. If you get the choice a small recommendation would be to sit in a booth rather than at a table because the booths are much quieter and more intimate.

the Leinster bistro is in a great location in the heart of the medical area of Merivale. The décor of the restaurant is stunning - huge murals which create a welcoming and totally different kind of environment to your predictable Chch café/restaurant. The mixture of booth and table seating is also appealing. Ive heard that the risotto is to die for but my friend and I chose other dishes for this first outing. My chicken sandwich was sadly very average...it was drenched in a cranberry sauce which tasted like your usual berry jam which completely overwhelmed the chicken in the somewhat hard toasted wholemeal. It did not make for enjoyable eating. The shredded side salad was very tasty, which helped to brighten up my meal. My first coffee was so-so and the second showed signs of improvement. I am looking forward to a second visit, as I think it's well and truly worth another visit, and from the clientele, it is clearly a popular lunch venue.

My wife and I really enjoyed a lunch here - just a couple of points let it down a bit. My starter of warm olives and feta was quite boring without bread, but my wife's assortment of breads and dips was excellent. We chose a main from the 4 specials chalked on the board - price at the bottom of the board was $25 which we assumed applied to all 4 dishes as there was only 1 price - but when the bill came it was $32. Pity about that because the welcome and especially the service was excellent - as were our 2 mains.
