5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of a busy 3 weeks round NZ. It was just what we needed. The room was spotless and nicely done, the view was amazing and the owners and staff couldn't have been nicer. Bathroom facilities are shared but it wasn't a problem. We also had a shared verandah. Again, not a problem. The food was some of the best we had in NZ and I definitely slept better here than anywhere else. We barely left the place it was so good, and we'd stay again without a doubt. Thanks for a lovely time!

My partner and I live in Christchurch so a shortish trip over Dyers Pass giving you the amazing views over the Harbour and Lyttleton was just the start.

Had the pleasure of staying in a room, slightly smaller than some and with shared facilities which was only a short walk down the corridor. Basin and bathrobes provieded in room though which was a plus.

We had a wonderful meal, bread to start, Steak and Fish for the main. The steak meal was possbily the best meal that I have had (pinched from partners plate). Was fantastic! Although a very busy evening as a locals birthday party was in full swing. Service was good and everyone happy which made for a very pleasureable evening and not to far away to get away for the night.

Would fully recomend the wonderful old heritage pub/hotel that has had a wee face lift but with truly passionate professionals running this delightful Hotel

Room Tip: Although we had a "back room" with no balcony it was still a good choice. (Possibly bette...

Hi Fiona,
Many thanks for submitting your review to the trip advisor community and we're so glad you enjoyed your stay. We're very proud of the standard of food and service we provide at our small Hotel but admit there are shortcomings in terms of creature comforts for some guests, ie., the shared bathroom facilities. Fiona, if you're ever coming over again for the night consider a free upgrade to our King size balcony room a done deal. I'm sure you'll appreciate the difference, particularly on a balmy summer night.
Kind regards,
Jeremy Dyer

I stayed here for a night whilst on business in Christchurch. I wanted somewhere with charm, views, relaxed yet still close to the CBD. This place ticked all the boxes. Thank you Holly and team for a lovely stay. The dinner on the deck (venison and Pinot) was first class and the bar was charming. My room was a little tight by very comfortable. The shared facilities were very clean. I enjoyed my included continental breakfast on the balcony in the morning overlooking the bay before a spectacular drive into Christchurch.

I will be back!

Room Tip: Definitely get a room with a bay view

Dear Mike,
Many thanks for taking the time to write of your experience at our Hotel. We're so very glad you enjoyed your time with us and indeed, your intention to return. We are somewhat biased but you can get close to paradise when you combine our views, with good food and Holly's service. Shame we can't expand our rooms or ensuite them at this stage but you never know, there are plans afoot.
Have a great Christmas Mike and thank you again.
Kind regards,
Jeremy Dyer

Charming old hotel, built in 1870. We had a room with views on the bayside that opened up to the shared balcony. The room was fairly small, but tastefully decorated and comfortable. We didn't have an ensuite, but the shared bathrooms were modern, roomy and clean. Lovely surprise to have bathrobes provided. The shared breakfast room was well-stocked with tea/coffee/hot chocolate and choices of cereals, bread and spreads. We didn't dine there this time, but we have in the past and the food was delicious. That's what prompted us to stay there this time when we went to Christchurch. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend you stay there.

Nice old pub/hotel/restaurant.Great views from front.
Room small with share facilities.
All Christchurch accommodation fills up fast because of earthquake damage, plus prices higher than elsewhere in NZ.

My partner and I would recommend staying here - the staff are very friendly and you have a choice of room size (and price) - all which have shared bathroom facilities. We stayed in a room facing the balcony and enjoyed the views and the clean room. The communal breakfast room means you can make tea/coffee as you please and enjoy a continental breakfast at any time (we needed to leave for an early flight so were able to have an early breakfast before we left). We enjoyed some drinks in the garden and a lovely pub meal downstairs the night before. It might be noisy if you stay on a Friday/Saturday night when the pub and garden areas are full. But if you can't beat them join them I say!

Hi Gilds,
Many thanks for taking the time to the time to post a review on Trip Advisor. We very much appreciate your comments and would welcome you back should you be in the area again. Completely, understand your comments regarding Friday and Saturday nights (Thursday nights tend to be pretty busy too). Generally, bar noise is diminished by 11pm or midnight in some circumstances. Moreover, this becomes less of a factor in our low season periods. However, it is something we would like to draw to the attention of any potential guests and the "if you can't beat them..." comment is appreciated.
Kind regards,
Jeremy
