My husband and I chose this B & B because of the positive feedback we saw on Trip Advisor. Denis picked us up and delivered us to the airport - free of charge. He and his lovely wife Pam could not have been nicer. They provided bikes for each of us to tool around Christ Church, and made good recommendations for local restaurants. Our room and private bath were clean and charmingly decorated in various shades of purple, and our bed was very comfortable. Pam and Denis provided a # of options for breakfast - all were great. We happened to stay there the evening NZ won the 2011 World Rugby Cup, so we've included a shot of a happy Denis. We highly recommend this B & B!

After travelling over most of New Zealand, I think I can easily say that Lilac Rose was the single best place we stayed. While we have been to lots of other places that are almost as beautiful, Denis, Pam & family really make this an ideal place to stay.

The room itself was very well appointed and the bathroom lovely and spacious. Breakfast was utterly delicious (and more than once I completely spoilt my lunch by eating too much of Pam's crumble) and the family did everything possible to make our stay better.

Christchurch is a funny place to visit after the recent earthquakes - the CBD has a curiously quiet atmosphere, which I suspect will last until reconstruction has completed. However Lilac Rose is situated in the Merivale suburb, which seems to be where all of the night life of Christchurch has moved. So our originally worries about not having anything to do turned out to be completely without foundation, as the area was buzzing just when we wanted it to be. So while the CBD may be out of bounds for now, Lilac Rose makes an excellent base for exploring the rest of Christchuch and Caterbury.

All in all, we had a fantastic time, we lovely hosts and I would hesitate for a second to recommend anyone else staying here.

Helpful owners with Denis cooking a made-to-order breakfast. A quaint Victorian-style home with well-planted gardens.
Having said that, now is not the time to visit Christchurch. Many attractions are closed due to the earthquake & getting around Christchurch is not easy. Plus the traffic is dreadful-too darn many cars.

We stayed the first night in New Zealand at Lilac Rose Boutique B&B. It is a perfect place, very charming, cosy and clean with a beautiful garden.
Denis picked us up at the airport. Our hosts, Pam and Denis were very friendly and helped us with a lot of tips and advices. The breakfast was homemade and delicious. We think it is the best place to stay in Christchurch. If we could, we would rate it with 6 Stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were really happy with our stay at Lilac rose, it was a shame we were only there for one night. But what a beautiful end to our holiday!

The house is very beautiful with lovely rose gardens. The room is great with comfortable beds. Great attention to details on everything – from the wonderful toiletries, to the decoration. Breakfast is amazing - it is cook to order and you have a menu selection to choose from. Pam and Denis were warm and friendly and will do what they can to make our stay comfortable. And not to mention the very adorable Abbie (Golden retriever) and Minx (The house cat). A big plus is the free Wifi provided – a rarity in NZ where Internet is expensive. You have to stay here to experience all the wonderful things mentioned here.

We would love to be back again someday! Please do not look anywhere else if you’re looking for an accommodation at Christchurch! Lilac Rose is the place to stay!

Started our 2-week tour of the South island at the Lilac Rose. What a start! Hosts were very friendly and knowledgeable about places to stop on our drive up to Nelson. They had great suggestions for dinner, and even called in reservations for us, and had a full menu for breakfast.
Everything was clean, provided, and well cared for. They even thought to set out bubble bath for the tub in our en suite.
It was an extremely comfortable and relaxing way to start our vacation!

We stayed at Lilac Rose on our first and last night of our New-Zealand tour. It's a wonderful place, very charming, the breakfast is delicious (especially the rhubarb-raspberry crumble!) and Pam and Denis are very friendly and helpful hosts (without forgetting Abby!). We will definitly go back there again for our next trip to New-Zealand.
