“An unnecessary Stress!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2013

We booked to stay in the Treehouse on the 26th and 27th May 2013. First we had a cancellation sent to us with no notice on the Queen suite. Then we tried to book again through bookit (who are very helpful). and even phoned the operator of this place to make sure everything was ok for our stay. He stated it was and uttered something about having problems with staff. Well when we arrived there was NOONE there!! NOOONE!!. We ended up ringing the real estate agent who is selling the property, to find out the vendor was overseas so there was no way we could stay there anyway. So last minute, we're driving around Christchurch to find accommodation. NOT IMPRESSED the owner completely lied on the phone when saying the place is available. Its not available so just take it off the the internet and save travellors the unnecessary drama.

Room Tip: Cant recommend based on the fact they tell you its available to stay in when its NOT!

We had booked a room for the night and asked if it would be a problem to leave early in the morning as our flight was at 6.00. No reply but the booking was confirmed.
We arrived at 5.45 pm after a 9 hour drive and found the lights on but nobody home and rang (heard our own phone ring so we were sure it was the right place) Waited half an hour and decided to go for dinner and kept ringing the B&B.... Returned at 8.15, to find the lights off and still no-one home. Called the sales-agent, as the house was for sale! She confirmed that the owner was not there as she had tried to get in touch too (for some days). We left a note...(still NO reply after a week....)We ended up finding another bed for a few hours sleep NO breakfast at a steep price. NO excuse possible for this act!

Room Tip: I learned from TravelBug that unfortunately we were not the only one with this experience. Once the...

My friend and I booked our first night in Christchurch at the Tree House, and we felt it was so welcoming and such good value that we spent 2 more nights there over the next three weeks, whenever we were in Christchurch. There is not much accommodation available in Christchurch because of the earthquake, and the only choice was very expensive motels a long way from the City for more than $150, or backpackers hotels costing about $70 to $75 for 2 per night, in poorly maintained buildings .
The Tree House, at about $80, was very comfortable, extremely welcoming, spotless, with a touch of luxury you only find in expensive hotels. Yes, we had to share a bathroom with 2 other bedrooms, but didn't find it a problem. It is located in lovely gardens, at the end of a pathway with steps, therefore not suitable for people with mobility problems. We had full use of a very lovely lounge / dining room, and a very well equipped kitchen. Self-serve breakfast was included in the deal. Our host, Ken, was very welcoming and helpful, going out of his way to find us shuttles cheaper than the local taxis, and letting us use his phone for free.
We slept in 3 different bedrooms, all very luxurious, 2/3 had a flat screen TV, one didn't. We were able to leave our excess luggage while trekking.
For not much more than a backpacker hotel, we got luxurious hotel accommodation (with share bathroom). It was a very enjoyable experience, and I will return on my next trip to Christchurch!

Room Tip: All rooms were very comfortable, but in the dark I bumped into the 4-poster bed, which was quite squ...

We stayed at this B&B for two nights. It was lovely to sit under the tree on the patio and chat with our friends. Lovely lush garden with lots of trees. The bed was very comfortable. Plenty of supplies for the do-it-yourself breakfast. Very nice dining room. Very clean.
However - the B&B was very hard to find - no name on the gate and the letterbox with street number was hidden behind a lot of ivy. Had to get out of car to check which house was number 55. A bit of a climb along the path and up several short flights of steps. Our room still had to be prepared so we sat outside and had tea. Our room was nice but had no wardrobe or anywhere to hang our clothes or towels. No TV. No rubbish bin. A bathroom was shared between three rooms. A hand held showerhead in the bath with no shower curtain meant that water went everywhere and was quite difficult for me as I am in my 70's and not as agile as I used to be. I believe there was another shower upstairs but was not shown this. My towel was badly stained and rough. The owner liked us to take off our shoes at the door, which is not an unreasonable request - however on going down the carpeted stairs in socks I slipped and fell down the stairs - no handrail to grab onto - very lucky not to have broken my ankle. The Travelbug website that advertises this B&B had a picture of a very nice TV lounge which just was'n't there. Bedrobes and TV's in all rooms - NOT. The owner was definitely not a people person. A lot of walking in the room above late at night. And the bathroom was cleaned late at night. On the whole an interesting experience - value for money? not really. Wouldn't stay here again.

Room Tip: Do not take the room with the four poster - our friends had this and woke up every time they turned...
