We booked the flight partly on the strength of the previous review - and nothing disappointed at all. Hugh arranged a completely customised flight for us out from Christchurch, over the Alps, taking in all the sights of the peaks, glaciers and lakes. We flew into Milford Sound which is a spectacular approach from the sea, up the sound and landed, to then take the boat trip that Hugh had also arranged for us (after having a welcome hot chocolate in the cafe as it was pretty chilly when we landed. Boat trip was brilliant, then back via a different route seeing yet more spectacular sights. It was an amazing day - weather was perfect, and High took great care of us, pointing out the sights and generally keeping us informed and amused. Its a trip of a lifetime for us and i;d like to thank Hugh so much for making it so amazing.

We booked our South Island Scenic Flight with Canterbury Aviation based at Christchurch Airport. The owner, Hugh Robinson, first flew us in a small plane down the West Coast, with beautiful views of the beaches and Tasman Sea. Then at the little town of Franz Josef we transferred to The Helicopter Line for our trip up to the Franz Josef Glacier, where we hiked on the ice and slid through an ice cave. Great adventure, well worth doing!
We stayed overnight at the Alpine Glacier Motel in the little town of Franz Josef – our room looked brand new, it was spotlessly clean and spacious, and very inexpensive – highly recommended! (www.alpineglaciermotel.com).
Next day, Hugh flew us down to Milford Sound, where we had a lovely boat ride down the Sound to the Tasman Sea and back again (about 2 hours). Beautiful scenery! Then we flew over the Alps for about two hours back to Christchurch – stunning views of mountain tops covered in snow, several glaciers and deep valleys. Not to be missed!
