This is a house that is known for an early settler who was influential in the new Christchurch city, Heaton Rhodes. A walk around the house, punt on the river here and the restaurant with also the devonshire and high teas! I like this.

A beautiful block of native bush in the heart of the city - makes for a quiet place to escape and take a moment away from it all amongst the kahikitea. The history of European settlement in the city starts here - drop into the cottage and learn where it all began...

The bush was lovely but the house was closed unfortunately due to earthquake damage. The sunday market had been recommended but disappointing with only about 10 stalls.

We went to the Riccarton Saturday Market, which was wonderful, but the real treat was the stroll in the Native Bush, The path are laid out between ancient tall Kahikatea trees. Some of the over 600 years old. It was like stepping back in time, So restful, with lots of birdsong, hard to believe it's in the middle of Christchurch.
