This was the site of one of the early settlers, and the cottage remains open for people to view. The large house is a restaurant and behind, one can wander into the native bush, see native birds. So close to town, yet so peaceful.

inner city place of interest for families and birdlife lovers. as one walks around you forget you are in the city and start to relive the native bush areas that once were common in Canterbury

Saturday Farmers Market is a must visit. Lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, music and coffee. It has a lovely atmosphere. Take the time to walk through the bush which has 5 kiwis in it.

If you love food, check out the markets here on Sunday morning. Havent been around the park itself yet, but definetly love chilling out here on a early sunday morning. Check out the porridge stand in Winter or pancakes in the summer - YUM! Bring some old bread for the ducks, but make sure you keep an eye on the little ones as the river isnt fenced in some parts. BRING CASH and a bag/basket
