A good place to spend time with the family, especially if you are from the warmer climates. There are a lot of activities based around snow and the Antarctic exploration. The ride in the Hagland vehicle is also a lot of fun.

Sounded interesting thought $35 per person was reasonable however turns out its $35 I won't be getting be getting back! We spent a grand total of 30 mins there. A lot of the attractions were broken I.e. movies and wall displays. Penguins were cute however only 1 floating in the water to look at. Coats extra for any future attractions I.e. 4d movie and snow vehicle ride. Wouldn't suggest visiting.
It was easy to spend a full morning here as there is so much information to take in. We enjoyed the ride on the Hagglund tractor as well as the 4D experience. However it was the quality and variety of the information that kept us fascinated. The lunch at the restaurant was good value.
Very good. There's an awful lot history and information crammed in to what is essentially quite a small space - the displays are fascinating, some unusual and all very clever. Star attraction though just has to be the Blue Penguins especially if, like me, you failed to see the genuine wild ones on the coast. The snowstorm room does what it says on the label - and yes, it is very cold in there! There is, of course the usual gift shop and cafe, both very good and not as expensive as some others. Worth a look but pricey even without paying extra for the film and the snowcat ride!
Lots to see and do. Plenty of information. Make sure you see the penguins being fed, as this was really interesting.
Lots of films to watch and interactive things for children.
This a real fun place.
It is located right next to the airport, about fifteen minutes from the city center. There is an outstanding amount of information about the Antarctic available in the exhibition. There are also some unique fun interactive experiences included. The blizzard room lets you experience an Antarctic blizzard (protective clothing is provided). Don’t miss the penguin feeding. This might not sound like that much fun, but the staff will give an informative narration and you will quickly identify the different penguin characters as they react to the feeding in very different and entertaining ways.
It is strongly suggested that you go for the full package NZ $65 (NZ $10 discount vouchers available in a number of Christchurch tourist publications) In addition to the normal features this will give you a chance to ride in a Hagland. This is an all-terrain vehicle that is used in the Antarctic. This ten minute drive takes you over very steep hillocks, over a simulated 2 meter crevasse, and through deep water. Here you will be happy to discover that these vehicles actually float!
The full package also admits you to a 4D film of the Antarctic. Spray blows over you as your vessel pounds through rough seas, your seat rocks as you grind over ice flows, wildlife jumps off the screen at you, and snow falls gently all around. All this is to a background of stunning visual scenery. This is a ‘one off’ experience that should not be missed.
This exhibit is a great experience. There is much here for both adults and children. There are plenty of places to sit and rest, clean toilets and a café and shop. This is the closest to the real Antarctic that most of us will ever get. If you don’t do anything else in Christchurch, do this.
