Ian and Allison are really accommodating hosts who love to engage you in conversations.. Their home is a lovely place.. one filled with warmth and a homely atmosphere for guests. The house is kept wonderfully clean and the rooms are furnished with pretty furniture which is consistent as the other parts of the house. We had a really early morning flight and Allison was ever willing to wake up earlier to prepare breakfast for us and then send us to the airport which was appreciated so much as we have a baby with us. Free wireless service is provided as well! It is located about 5-8 minutes away from Riccarton area which is the shopping zone since the City Centre is closed due to the quake. The airport is about 7-10 minutes away making the place accessible. We enjoyed our stay at Glenveagh!

Allison picked us up from the airport after very long flight and gave us cups of tea and cake when we arrived. Next day she also took us to the train station to board the Trans scenic train to Greymouth. Both Ian and Allison were wonderful hosts, and chatted wih us about our about plans for holiday and suggested places for us to visit. If we were ever lucky enough to visit this wonderful country again we would certainly stay with them and would recommend it to anyone!

We stayed with Ian and Alison Boyd at Glenveagh in January of this year for 3 nights. From the minute Alison collected us at the airport to the moment Ian dropped us back, we were made so welcome that we felt like we had known them for years . . . and I am hope we will continue to do so.

Glenveagh itself is a well-decorated, contemporary home with every comfort you need from a B&B. We stayed in the Tralee Room, with ensuite shower room, with patio doors to the outside balcony. The rooms are well equipped with hairdryer, iron, ironing board, etc, and you can use the washing machine and tumble dryer downstairs for a small fee.

In addition, it was lovely to have use of a Resident's Lounge, with large tv, good collection of books and games, plus a Hospitality Tray offering complimentary tea and coffee on a 24 hour basis. There is also a separate area set-aside for guests in the garden, which is a nice touch.

Whilst the house is not in the centre of Christchurch, it is only a short drive into the city, with free parking in the Park on the outskirts of town. There is also a bus service that takes you into the centre, with the bus stopping close to the house. Just yards up the road from Glenveagh, there is a selection of shops, including a good supermarket, and various restaurants, so everything from a sandwich to a full meal is in easy walking distance. We tried the Wine Bar and the Indian and both were good - the pizzas in the Wine Bar especially so.

Continental Breakfast included all kinds of cereals, fruits and fruit juices, along with toast, croissants and jams and a never-ending flow of tea, but the daily highlight were Alison's home-made muffins, the lightest, fluffiest ever.!! With ever-changing recipes we were spoilt for choice and we used to smuggle a couple away now and then to eat later!! Breakfast was always a chance to chat to Ian and Alison and learn about the area (and Kaikoura, where we went for whale watching and where they have an apartment available for rental), they are more than happy to share information with you and make recommendations. But, if you want to be left alone, they understand and know when to leave you in peace.

Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts and we enjoyed ourselves so much we booked in for a further night at the end of our trip. We would not hesitate to stay again and recommend this B&B for its hosts, its comforts and its location - just 7 minutes from the airport, with the added benefit of complimentary transfers.
