“Great Property”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

We had booked direct as it was our sons graduation and the owner said we could have the room but would have to book for three nights. Which was fine. There was my husband and myself and my daughter and we had a large room with a fold down couch. It turned out my motherinlaw was able to come so we rang back to see if we could book another room for just one night and that too was fine. Except when we arrived my motherinlaw a booking couldn't be found after a 15 minute anxious wait we were told there was a room for her. We never knew exactly what happened to her booking..We were given a complimentary welcome pack which was a nice touch....My only gripe would be the unit is set up only for two so everything cups, plates, towels etc was for two we didn't worry about utensils etc as we were hardly there but had to ask for a extra towel daily . The other thing it would have been nice to have the room vacumed by the third day the floor was looking quite grubby (daughter eating potato chips didnt help). The property was full and it seemed like the husband and wife did everything and to be honest we didn't see the owner smile once he actually was not very friendly at all. I try to make my reviews positive and honest and this is a really great property and we would stay again, maybe we just caught him on a bad week. P.s try the Thai caravan down the road ...Yummy...

Room Tip: If you don't want to carry luggage up stairs ask for a ground unit..

On arrival at the Terra Vive we were 3 hours early for check in. Despite this, the owners checked if our room was ready and let us check in early at no extra cost. Great start!
But then we had to lug out 20kg cases up a flight of stairs to our room, not so great after 36 hours of travel. Maybe a porter service could be recommended as half of the rooms on the complex are up the stairs.
The apartment was wonderful. Modern, comfortable furnishings, soft carpet, huge TV, private balcony, a mini kitchen, and the marvellous spa bath.
At the Terra Vive we found ourselves a short, leisurely walk from the CBD and Hagley Park and surrounded by places to eat.
The mini kitchen in the apartment meant we could cook our own food, and there was a small welcome pack of snacks and cleaning detergent, very handy!
House keeping was excellent, towels, toilet rolls and toiletries re-filled everyday and the room was cleaned thoroughly. We had no disturbances whilst sleeping here, and the bed was very comfortable. The spa bath is another element of relaxation, and a nice added touch that other hotels don't offer.
Free Wi-Fi is available which is very rare in NZ! The family that live in and run this establishment are friendly and it was no trouble for them to help us find our way around and book taxis etc.
I would recommend this hotel very highly, a lovely place to stay, relax and explore in Christchurch. My partner is still going on about this place two months after staying here!

Room Tip: Ground level rooms recommended for people unable to carry their luggage upstairs.

What a lovely surprise this was. Although on Bealey Avenue it was set back from the road so the traffic noise was limited. The apartment we were in was spacious and well decorated. There was even a washing machine and a tumble dryer which was a bonus as we had been touring Tasmania immediatelly prior to arriving at Terra Viva. A lovely cake shop come cafe across the road catered for our breakfast and a Speights Pub was only 10 minutes walk away for evening meals. There are cooking facilities in the apartment if you want to use them. All in all a place I would recommend to anyone looking for excellent quality accommodation.

Room Tip: Some rooms have spa baths others have large wet rooms. make your choice

The rooms were wonderful. Huge bathrooms, huge big bed, lovely kitchen including laundry. All totally brand new.
I checked in very late, as my tour was delayed, yet the staff couldn't have been more understanding. And they helped sort out my early morning taxi to the station the next day. The quality of the room was the best I experienced in New Zealand in the 3 weeks I was there.
Great value. (For first timers to NZ - it's expensive!)

Thsi was our last stay in New Zealand and we were in a two bedroom apartment, which was comfortable just a tad small. We were easily able to walk the short distance into Christchurch and ate at what hd become one of our favourite eating places in NZ - Speights Ale House, which was a 5-10 minute walk down the road. There was plenty of room to park at the apartments. The rooms were very clean and the beds comfortable. We would stay here again as even though we had an early morning flight we found this an easy place to stay not to far from the airport.

While not the most imposing apartments on Bealey ave, inside they were absolutely perfect. Fully equipped in every way with free wi fi as a bonus, we could not fault them. After a week of travelling the washing machine & tumble drier were especially useful. The spa baths were huge even if the bathroom itself was fairly tight on space.
We opted for the continental breakfast delivered to our room the night before which included cereal, toast, fruit and a snack bar. This was on top of the milk & snacks given on arrival as a welcome pack.
If we wanted to be critical, being on a busy road gave a bit of traffic noise, but certainly not enough to disturb our sleep. Overall a definite nine out of ten.

Room Tip: We were upstairs, just a bit more privacy.

Stayed here for one night as it was fully booked for the other - after the first night - we really wanted to stay a second... Room is tastefully decor'd, functional and met all our requirements. We had a spa suite, which was great (although we did not get to use the spa as our flight was delayed and we arrived late). Owner was great - friendly and helpful, he carried my wifes luggage to our room as i was carrying a few bags.

Great amenities - they even provide fresh milk, chips, cookies....and laundry detergent - has in room laundry (washer and drier) - pity we arrived late :(

Great place - recommended to my cousin and he also stayed there when he went - i would go back there in a heartbeat!
