“Getting worse”
Reviewed January 21, 2014

Having dined there on several occasions was very disappointed that on a recent visit it was busy and the service was almost non existent. The hot stone seafood was ok but on a bed of cabbage mostly wasn't as good as before and the hot cloths were omitted before and after the meal. Perhaps we didn't look like we deserved this usual pleasure. My last grumble was how they can charge $9 for a bowl of white rice? Reluctant to go back.

“Great food, charming staff, sensible prices”
Reviewed January 18, 2014

4 of us shared a delightful meal at Kinji. The sashimi was so fresh and beautifully presented as was the two fish mains we tried. The pork belly melted in one's mouth. Great food for sharing. Nicely topped off with a very tasty crème brulee. If you're a fan of green tea, the green tea tiramisu is a must. You do need to book, and they do accept BYO wine with a corkage charge. The staff were very informative and their recommendations were spot on. They were attentive without hovering. Very good value restaurant. Although on the other side of town from where we live, we will definitely be going back.

“Fantastic Food!”
Reviewed December 8, 2013

Just got back after a heavenly meal with a couple of friends at Kinji. We had the seared salmon sushi, seared scallop, beef teppanyaki, sashimi and creme brûlée for afters. It was all just the best food I've had in months anywhere. The beef melts in the mouth, as does the salmon and the scallop...and the creme brûlée was wonderful.
We ordered a second serving of the seared salmon and there was a long wait, but the waitress kept us informed and said there was a lot of sushi being made...it was very busy. But we didn't mind at all. The wait was totally worth it. The waiters are all kind and attentive and what a nice touch for the chef himself to come out to say goodbye. Go. You won't regret it!!

“Best japanese that we have had in nz”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

I read about this restaurant on TA and made a last minute reservation for dinner at 9pm on our 2nd last day in Christchurch.

It was very near our motel and it was an easy drive there.

When we arrived the restaurant was almost full and the atmosphere was great. We ordered 6 dishes to share and all were hot and delicious.

The teppanyaki was very good and the dinner bento set was ample and portions were large.

Sashimi was very fresh as well.

Service here is outstanding! When we left, the chef came out to speak with us and he was very friendly and nice.

One of the best japanese that we have had and we have had a lot!

Presentation of the meals were great too. We will remember this place when we return to Christchurch again.

“Well worth considering”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

This restaurant is certainly well up there when it comes to food, hospitality, and presentation. Service was excellent, great ambience, and the surroundings very tasteful. If you are considering Japanese then would highly recommend.
