Settled in 1994 in the heart of Marlborough within the most beautiful gardens Herzog’s offers casual luxury and indulgence for food and wine lovers. Unfettered by commercial considerations, the Herzog’s have adopted an experimentalist stance, cultivating an eclectic array of grape varieties all of them highly acclaimed wines rich in varietal character showing off the covetous terroir. The Estate’s iconic Gourmet Restaurant, casual Bistro, stylish Cellar Door and lovely Vineyard Cottage oozes European elegance and together with vivacious Therese’s and her team warm hospitality it really is a must visit destination!

“Herzog Bistro is great”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2014

Herzog restauarant and bistro shut each winter while Mr & Mrs Herzog go to Europe and return with new kitchen and front of house brigades which are usually from Michelin-star restaurants in Switzerland, Austria or Germany.
Consequently the fine dining is first class, both for food and service, but the bistro (food from the same kitchen) is one of the best value for money places in the top of the South Island.
At lunch or early evening the garden is a lovely place to eat, later or towards autumn inside is OK.
But it's the food which is the star.

“Excellent Quality, Fresh Innovative food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2014

this was our first meal in Blenheim and set the standard for the rest of the trip that never really came close to the meal we had at Hans Herzog. Two of us shared the beef and it was cooked to perfection, melt iin your mouth divine. The sauce and freshly roasted vegetables with it were also fabulous. The others had the fish of the day which was fresh, tasty and again cooked to perfection. The wines were superbly matched and couldn't be faulted. The service was as you would expect and very good. The food was fresh, expertly prepared and presented and tasted divine. I am normally very critical and don't tolerate bad food or bad service but couldn't find fault with anything at the restaurant. The vineyard setting was also delightful.

Eat in the Bistro. The setting is beautiful amount the vineyard with a great educational display and notes on all the varieties of grapes grown locally. The food is of a high standard and professionally waited on. The wine was not to our taste but that is a very personal choicr

“The Best Meal of our Entire Trip!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2014

We went to Hans Herzog for dinner on our first night in the Marlborough region. It was seriously the best meal we had on our entire trip. We sat out on the back patio and had the rose champagne to start, with bread/tomato salad, and then our main courses were the lamb - delicious. Everything was picture perfect. Go to this place if you can!

“Delightfully pretty winery and restaurant.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2014

We booked a wine tour here before having lunch and it is such a lovely thing to do ! A very pretty vineyard with a little cottage one can stay in and many beautiful roses around and an arbor of vines running thruogh the garden with outside tables you can sit at under the trees in the shade, outstanding.Danny who gave us the tour was extremely informative and polite ,and talked us through the various grape varieties and showed us the cellar etc.Lunch was delicious ,beautifully prepared and presented ,with matching wines .Would love to go back and spend more time there.
