Our meal at Hans Herzog Estate was the best meal we had during our three week vacation in New Zealand.
They have a formal dining room with a set menu and a bistro in another part of their building. The formal dining room was closed and so I can't comment on that portion. We ate in the garden area of the lovely bistro at a corner table that was protected from most of the evening wind (it was spring).
The appetizer was a generous portion of smoked salmon that was just melt in your mouth and had the nicest flavors. We devoured it and could have just ordered a couple more of those for our dinners and been very happy. Our main entrees were a lamb with a curried broccoli and couscous for my husband and a charcuterie plate for me. The lamb was wonderful. The lamb itself was incredibly tender and the seasoned broccoli and couscous were almost better than the lamb. It was one of those amazing food experiences. The charcuterie platter’s presentation was beautiful and the meats and cheeses varied and delicious.
We also thought it was reasonably priced for the quality and excellence you get. We had the appetizer and the two main dishes plus a glass of wine each and it came out to about $110NZ. Considering we ate at a pub two nights later and spent $90 for food that we were not happy with, Hans Herzog is a win!
