We stayed at Vintners with our friends for 2 nights. We had a fantastic 2 bedroom house with 2 bedrooms with king beds and 2 bathrooms. The house was really clean and very well presented. It even had a full size kitchen with everything you could need to prepare your own meals. Vintners is within easy walking / bike riding distance to a number of wineries but is quiet and secluded. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights here.

First the not so good.
We booked a two bedroom lodge villa for four nights. When we were shown to the villa we found it rather pokey and dark but, most importantly, it was right beside the road. Although this looks like a small country road on the map it appears to be the main route between the ferry at Pitcton and Nelson and was very busy and noisy - including trucks. We asked to move away from the road. Although almost no-one else appeared to be there during our whole four day stay, the only alternative we were offered was a larger two story unit at a greater cost.
We found the villas to be of a lesser quality than both Village Lake apartments at Hamner Springs and The Fairways at Kaikoura - particularly the kitchen and bathrooms -but at a much higher price. Also the lighting is very un-atmospheric, with only glary bare econo-saver bulbs in the living areas with no dimmer switches. Also be aware that the second bathroom is downstairs well away from the bedrooms so really not of much use.
The good bits.
We solved the lighting problem by bringing the two bedside lights down from the spare bedroom - much nicer and, I would have thought ,cheaper. The villas at the back overlooking the vineyard and mountains do have a lovely outlook and, although there was still a little road noise, we slept very well. The beds were extremely comfortable and the quality of the towels and linen was excellent. The room service was efficient and unobtrusive. My husband accidentally got some blood on the sheets the first night from a small scratch. When we went to bed on the second night we found that the bed had been completely changed, even though a change of sheets was only supposed to happen every four nights. Top marks.
The airconditioner in the living area provided pleny of heat, although a gas fire would have added atmosphere. We found a couple of oil column heaters in the upstairs cupboard and installed one in the bathroom which made up for the lack of underfloor heating. There was an ample supply of tea, coffee, sugar, etc and a plentiful supply of washing powder in the laundry.
The villas are in an excellent position for easy access to a number of areas - Picton, Queen Charlotte Sound, Nelson Lakes NP, etc. Blenheim is a nice town with good shopping and a few decent eating options - had an amazing steak at the Hotel D'Urville - expensive but worth it.

These houses are fabulous. Loads of space, great quality and fab location right in amongst the wineries. The hosts were great helping us out when we arrived very late to ensure we could get a meal nearby. Pool wasn´t up and running but looked good and can´t stress enough the fantastic quality of the accomodation. We were with our 3 kids and for once on our trip it felt like we had enough room!!

I stayed in one of the refurbished villas at Vintners Retreat and i was really impressed! There is ample space in this modern but functional villa. It's the perfect place for entertaining with its indoor and outdoor living. The villa is equipped with all the mod cons and its cosy! The views that surround the villa are stunning and you are nestled amongst New Zealand's world class wineries!! What are you waiting for? Managers Martin and Shulah are fantastic hosts, they will make you feel at home. Check it out!

We stayed at Vintners for 2 night, and wished we had of stayed longer. We were travelling from north to south of NZ and had only allowed for 2 days in this location. We swam in the pool, played tennis and walked / rode to nearly every winery in the region. Also the accomodation its self was clean modern and friendly - ALL the things that you want when you are in another country!

We stayed here as part of a New Zealand tour . Another review called the Vintners ' a colony' which gives the wrong impression . Yes its modern , yes there are a few other holiday homes on the development that are the same but really the important thing is the quality which was first class and the location which is superb . All winaries of note are a few minutes away including Cloudy Bay . Heaven !
