Lovely looking hotel, helpful staff, internet connections not fantastic was my only quibble. We didn't try the in-house restaurant but staff reserved tables for us at other places, which was excellent - they even have a book of menus behind reception. Recommend the Hotel D'Urville restaurant in town, or travel out to Vintners Retreat.

We stayed here for three nights in April 09 in one of the new suites with washing machine, microwave etc. Rooms were excellent, nice bathrooms with heated floors, large very comfortable beds, air con and flat screens in all rooms. Easy walking to main centre of Blenheim and and walking tracks along river. Nice bistro style restaurant with reasonably priced food. Wireless Internet available in rooms or desktops in foyer but is not included in price (annoying, should be included in room price like running water, but like most hotels is not). Available by 'scratch' card from the front desk. We had a very happy and pleasant stay. Pricing for quality of accom reasonable (especially in NZ dollars). Highly recommended.

The Chateau Marlborough is a lovely property set adjacent to Seymour Square in Blenheim. I have stayed here of three occassions in the past year. The rooms are nicely furnished and always spotlessly clean. They have flat screen televisions, comfortable beds and good linen. There is no air conditioning in the rooms which can be issue in the Summer as Blenheim gets very warm. The bathrooms are clean and tidy and the showers have excellent pressure.

The hotel is currently undergoing a refurbishment. They have recently completed a new wing of the hotel and the existing wings are being upgraded. When I stayed here, there was the usual dust and mayhem of a refurbishment in the hallways but that didn't detract from the experience. It will soon be completed and will be a much better Hotel for it.

Where the Chateau Marlborough constantly lets itself down is the staff. They are all very pleasant and mean well but there really is an amateur feel to almost everything they do. For instance, on my last stay, it took 45 minutes after I placed my order for my breakfast to arrive. Whilst the new restaurant and bar is a stunning venue, I had read the daily newspaper from the front to back covers and was staring into space for at least 15 minutes. When it arrived, there was no coffee or orange juice as I had ordered. They have a flat screen television in the restaurant but it wasn't on - no breakfast news. When I went to check out, it took my 10 minutes to find the receptionist. There is a bit of an air of 'Faulty Towers' about the staff.

All in all, the Chateau Marlborough is a good property. You really cannot fault the rooms or the common areas of the hotel - modern and spacious. They need a professional hotelier to run this property professionally and upskill the staff. This would take this Hotel from good to great.

We spent 2 nights (luckily only 2) in this hotel during January 2009 and were not satisfied at all. First of all, the staff was unfriendly, not even replying to our "Good Morning" when we went out. We were given a room at the first floor (no lift, they are building it...) that was extremely hot with a ridiculus fan making a lot of noise. We asked the reception to replace the fan and they gave us another one that was broken! When we asked for a working fan for the second time, they told us that they didn't have any, and could do nothing about that. Then we suggested the reception girl to simply go out and buy a new one, but she got quite angry and went out from our room slamming the door. Then, she came back after five minutes with a perfectly working fan. So, they had one in the end! Why they didn't gave us this working fan the first time we asked? We also had the idea that, with the renovating job still going on on the 1st floor, smell of paint and exposed electrical cables hanging form the ceiling, the place should simply be closed.

I was almost scared away from this hotel by the various reviews posted here about ongoing construction work, but after a few emails back and forward with the hotel staff and what seemed to be a good value offer to stay in one of their brand new suites, decided it was a chance worth taking.

Chateau Marlborough did not disappoint on any level. The room was certainly worth every cent, no doubt helped by retaining its never-been-stayed-in-before look, complete with very modern kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, spa and a couple of flat screen TVs.

The location is fine, only a few short blocks (maybe a five minute walk) from the centre of Blenheim, not that there is too much to get excited about in the town itself. In any case, we were there mainly to sample the vineyards of this well-renowned wine making area, and Blenheim is certainly the perfect location for that, with the closest of the wineries only a few minutes drive from the hotel.

The staff were friendly (as almost everyone seems to be in small town NZ), without being overbearing, and the food in their restaurant was exceptional for a hotel, even if the menu was limited. One complaint might be the lack of a breakfast option when booking a room (it is only an a la carte, pay for what you order, type arrangement), but with a self contained room, that was hardly an issue.

I am hard-pressed to list any further negatives, so will move on to the vexed issue of the renovations. As far as the construction is concerned, the only remaining work (as of late December 2008) is the upper floor of the new part of the hotel. We stayed below this section on the just-completed lower floor and, but for a few boarded-off upstairs windows, would hardly have known there was work going on. This was in part due to the fact that there was in fact little work happening over the late December holiday period, but I think it is safe to say that the worst of the construction disruptions noted in some earlier reivews are now a thing of the past.

Importantly, the renovations seem to have produced a very classy establishment in the middle of a most enjoyable part of the world, to which I would certainly return if the opportunity arose.

I've stayed at this hotel three times now, although the staff aren't exceptional the rooms are always extremely clean and comfortable. Although construction was on at the time of my stay, it wasn't too bad and working in a hotel myself it is necessary to upgrade. However, I feel it would have been more polite if they had communicated this with guests at the time of their booking so they knew what to expect prior to arrival. Thanks for a comfy stay!

This hotel is in the middle of a complete renovation project. Every single inch of the building is in some way being constructed, removed, replaced or destroyed. A make-shift reception is hosted in room 6. A bar has been hastily constructed in a another room. There are hard-hat warnings everywhere, and a six-foot chicken wire fence separates the pool from the workers. Literally, this is in no way a minor renovation that may slightly inconvenience guests - this is a total rebuild, with all the noise, dust and chaos associated with a major contracting project.

I booked this through Wotif.com and can't believe that the hotel did not mention this construction is happening. The place shouldn't even be open, since some areas are clearly a risk to guests (please see my pictures for examples),. The good news is that they didn't argue when I asked for a refund, but they should feel embarrassed about marketing this as a functioning hotel, since I then had to drive 100km to Kaikouri to find somewhere to stay.

I appreciate you felt this way on arrival and decided not to stay with us. We have kept the disruption to guests as minimal as possible. Safety of our guests is paramount and at no stage are guests at any risk. For new faciltites to be built unfortunately there is always going to be disruption. Without this we could not move forward and be able to offer Blenheim a high standard of luxury accommodation and services in the future. We have advised this on our website and Wotif when we began construction and have reduced our rates accordingly. In general we have had a positive response from our guests and we have appreciated the support from them and look forward to the finished product .
