We traveled in New Zealand for a month with another couple enjoying some of NZ's best B and B's and small inns. This was one of our favorites. Nettie, Bill and Jane are all wonderful hosts. They provide the much appreciated opportunity to visit with them and learn more about the area while offering well designed accommodations with complete privacy. We stayed in Vineyard Suites #1 and #2 which are nearly identical, beautifully furnished and well maintained. Nettie and Bill used to have a furniture business which is reflected in the outstanding quality of the furnishings in the suites. We especially enjoyed the large, well furnished courtyards in front of each suite, each with a beautiful view of the vineyards.

The highlight for us was sitting with our charming hosts under a vine covered arbor and sharing Jane's tasty appetizers, World's End excellent wine and some delightful conversation.
Our only regret was that we opted to drive into town for dinner rather than pre-order one of Jane's platters. Other guests were smarter than were we and after seeing their fare, we regretted both the long drive into town and missing the opportunity to relax further and enjoy the atmosphere, excellent food and company. We liked the wine so much that we ordered a case of the Sauv Blanc shipped to us in California where we also have a winery. It arrived prompty and in excellent condition and we think of Straw Lodge whenever we open a bottle.

My friend and I borrowed the two electric bikes one morning and had a wonderful time biking around the back roads near Straw Lodge. Our husbands went into town to visit the Air Museum which they reported one of the finest museum's they had ever seen. They highly recommend it to all.

With a limited number of rooms, rave reviews and charming accommodations in the middle of the vineyards you will likely need to book well in advance to take advantage of this charming B and B. It's well worth it.

We booked the lodge for ten people over NY and found the place to be perfect. Highly recommend the platters to share, we had more than enough food and the outside seating was ideal. Hot tub was a winner with us all and the hospitality was excellent. Thanks Jane and Nettie for your welcoming experience.

We stayed at the independent cottage at Straw Lodge for 4 nights this past December. The cottage was very cosy with a little fireplace (although we didn't have to use it since it was summer), and great views of the vineyard. The vines were just steps from our bedroom and the surroundings were beautiful. Nettie and Jane (and Bill) were wonderful hosts and we had many great conversations over their wine (World's End). They also had a lot of good recommendations on local attractions / restaurants / vineyards. We borrowed their bikes and rode to several vineyards for tastings and we would highly suggest this option. Breakfasts were like feasts and I especially loved Jane's homemade egg benedict :) Texas is their black lab and super friendly, and made us feel even more welcomed. We highly recommend this place as it truly feels like "World's End" - where you can relax, sit back and watch the world go by.

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of staying at Straw Lodge while we were visiting the Marlborough region. This is a special B & B, built by the owners as part of their small winery.
They have obviosly put a lot of effort into creating a very comfortable, visually appealing place to stay.
Make sure you make use of the hot tub and barbecue area while you are there.
The room we were in was a very spacious suite that entered into a shaded patio and beyond that lawn ad vines.
The qwners go out of their way to be hospitable, with great info on the area, etc. When we were there you had the choice of contnental breakfast or cooked breakfast. Very good food. They know what they are doing.
Let me add that the wine they make is very drinkable.

The Straw Lodge is amazing. I highly recommend it. Nettie, Bill, Jane (and Texas) are wonderful hosts and really make you feel like you are at home. I highly recommend the platter that Jane prepares - it was delicious. We will be back!
