Cruising the Opawa River on the River Queen run and hosted by Peter and crew, is the best way to spend a few idyllic hours in Blenheim. Peter is the ultimate host, considerate, full of interesting tales of Blenheim, its history, both on the river and off. He makes everyone feel very welcome and special. The attention to detail during the trip is second to none. I would recommend this trip 100% to anyone visiting the area and it will be thoroughly enjoyed by young and old alike.

This is a cruise down the Opawa river from the centre of Blenheim out to the southwest. As children many of us probably mucked about on the bank of a river with our friends, trying to net sticklebacks or wading into see what the larger fish are doing or perhaps trying to sneek up on the local birds. This trip is a more comfortable version of those childhood adventures. The "River Queen" is a very shallow draught boat and its engines are very quiet. So it is by far the largest vessel that can navigate this far up the river - it glides gracefully and very quietly down the river. The widllife barely take any notice of the boatuntil it is neraly upon them. They trust the " River Queen" it is part of their river life. This gives the visitor on the boat the most wonderful insight into the river life, they have laid back attitude to the quiet but big boat gliding through their territory. The sights that you see are of the river and its occupants at rest doing its business not the river disturbed by a human invasion. As the boat glides almost silently down the Opawa one can chat to people on the bank and the children seem to always stop and watch as the "River Queen" slides by some in quiet excitement and others rather more chatty. The friendly New Zealander always having a friendly word.
The scenery, the colours, the views and the glimpses one gets of the Blenehiem country side with the hills to the south, North and the Alps to the west .
All the reviews have complimented Peter, Sandra, Shona and Captain Dylan on their hospitality and ease as constant hosts with food, drink and information on the river and area. I can not add more than to confirm theri friendliness and hospitality. If you are in the area it is a "MUST DO" and if you are not in the area it is worth making a detour for. Their are all sorts of different optioins fo tour depending on when you visit. It is best to contact Peter or Sandra to find out what is avaialble at the time of your proposed visit. I hearltily recommend the "River Queen" with no reserve.

Was welcomed onboard my skipper Dylan and was immediately impressed.Polished floors and very spacious areas made me feel relaxed and comfortable.Questions were answered regarding the history of the River Queen and an onboard commentary provided during the cruise up the winding river with light background music playing which was refreshing and unobtrusive.
Light lunch was very tasty and substanial.Served by the wonderful friendly staff who tended to my every need. The choice of either,in or out door dining was refeshing and delightful.
Restrooms were immaculate and spacious.A nice to change to other attractions ive experienced that have no bathroom facilities.
A truly enjoyable cruise on a piece of history thats right in the town centre,a must for travellers and locals.
Check this attraction out a day I will remember for a very long time.
A camera is a recommendation on this cruise to capture the moments of nature along the riverbank and landscape.
Well Done River Queen!! Thankyou for a truly wonderful experience.

We came to Blenheim to get away from the Canterbury shakes for a few days. We noticed the riverboat cruise and decided it would be a good way to relax for a few hours!. What a fantastic trip we had! It was a wonderful journey down the river with excellent commentary which highlighted points of interest along the way. We booked the lazy lunchtime cruise and we were overwhelmed by the amazing lunch that was provided! What made the trip particularly memorable was the fantastic service that was provided. Pete, our host and his crew were so welcoming and friendly - they could not do enough to help us and went out of their way to ensure that we were enjoying our trip. Thank you so much - were will definitely be returning!

Great little trip down the river, welcomed on board by a nice fella who explained how the trip was going to work. You have the choice (for the afternoon tea option) between a high tea or a pre dinner nibbles. Food was lovely, a nice blend of local produce. The food, coupled with the vast array of both alcoholic (I strongly recommend the locally brewed, boutique beer "Renaissance") and non alcoholic beverages available makes for a pleasurable experience. The owner constantly made sure we were taken care of and always offered interesting tit bits on the local history. all in all a great trip for me and my girlfriend!! A+++
