My wife and I were visiting family here in New Zealand feom Hawaii and found this place online so we booked to stay for almost 2 weeks. As we were greeted by and got to know Neil, Sally and Nina, we were surprised this place was even vacant.

It was an AMAZING spot for us and a very balanced stay with plenty privacy, hospitality and friendliness that made us feel like we were staying with family. Our hosts were wonderful and very flexible and willing to make our stay as comfortable for us as they could. They were simply fantastic! They were always happy and so interested in us that we got know each other very well. They even put our American flag outside their house to make us feel welcome. They were the greatest hosts we've ever had. You don't get this kind of service at hotels, that's for sure.

The room is very spacious, beautiful balcony and nice size bathroom. They made sure that the electric blanket was ready for us so when we get there, the bed is nice and warm. It's a suite and has an extra room inside it also, it was perfect.

My wife is from the United States but I am from New Zealand so I knew my way around the city as I've lived here most of my life. However, I did want my wife to have a great experience and I learned that living here doesnt mean you know all the tourist spots. So, Neil was very helpful and showed us what there was to do and we enjoyed every minute of our stay there!

I highly recommend this place for anyone! A big thank you to our hosts Neil, Sal and Nina for their friendship and hospitality and we look forward to when we return as we will definitely stay here again.

We stayed at Gardens Homestay during the World Cup in September. We aren't really the B&B type, but I think that Neil, Sally and Nina converted us! Due to a flight change, we arrived much later than anticipated, and when we arrived the whole family greeted us and made us some tea without hesitation. As others have said, the room is large, with access to a fantastic balcony, and a sizeable bathroom. During our 2 night stay our hosts gave us the perfect balance of privacy, hospitality and friendliness. We went on the walking tour that Neil devised, and found it to be a great tour of the city. The location of the home is within a short walking distance to a little strip of restaurants and shops, as well as a newsstand and liquor store. We thoroughly enjoyed Neil and Sally's stories, and appreciated their knowledge of the city. They were even kind enough to drive us to the airport when we left! I hope that we get back to New Zealand in the future, and would absolutely stay here again.

We were given a lovely welcome by Neil, Sally and Nina, as well as a guided tour of their elegant house. They had even put the Union Jack out to make us feel at home. Our suite was enormous and very comfortable. We were given helpful advice to find a restaurant and felt obliged to drink the delicious glass of wine we were offered by our hosts when we got back in the evening. Morning tea was brought to our room by Sally so that we could have a lazy start to the morning. The breakfasts were delicious. A great place to stay.

Wellington was the third stop on our New Zealand trip, and at the Garden's Homestay I was finally able to unwind. The upstairs suite was spacious, elegant (with a balcony, tall ceilings and a fireplace!) and very private, and Sally was an engaging and helpful host. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

Our second visit to Neil, Sally and Nina's lovely home (and Rocky) and we got the same great welcome as before. This is a lovely place to stay, relaxed, comfortable and Neil and Sally are so knowledgeable about Wellington having lived here for so long. We enjoyed our first visit and were not disappointed on our second. if we go back to NZ there will be a third !

We chose Gardens Homestay from reading the Trip Advisor reviews and we were not disappointed. The room - more like a suite - was spacious and very clean. Neil, Sally and Nina are gracious and friendly hosts who welcomed us into their home and we enjoyed getting to know them during our 4 night stay. Excellent breakast - Sally is great cook. They were knowledgable about things to do in Wellington - even giving us a walking tour map to help us explore - and being so close to the Botanic Gardens was delightful. Within walking distance to the city centre in a nice area of town. If you like B&Bs and meeting the locals, this must be one of the best places to stay in Wellington.

The reservation process was fast and frienldy and we did get a very good description how to get there. That was just the first hint on what was to follow, wonderful service. The B&B is situated a 15 minute walk outside the center but this walk is a very nice one through the botanical gardens. The St Mary street is pretty steep but down below are some nice restaurants of which the Speights (turn left and about 200m down theroad on the left side) was pretty good food.We were greeted by the host and he helped us greatly with our luggage, showed us where to park and then showed is the house and the room.

We had the bigger of the two which was in fact half of the upper floor with a very spacious sleeping room (equipped with a large bed, a fireplace and a sitting area) a smaller dressing room, a very nice bath (a shower with lots of hot water) and a nice balcony with a wonderful view of the sea. Since the house is in this small street it made for a wonderful sleeping experience.

Downstairs we met the cat of the home, rocky, a black tomcat which really loves to be cuddled and had a nice relaxing drink (complimentary) at the pool chatting about New Zealand and Europe. Our hostess arrived and both were great on advice for the evening and we did get a very detailed description of downtown Wellington and how to get there and what to do. They waited for us in the evening and we had a nice talk over a bottle of wine (we brought some along) at the fireplace.

In the morning we received a hearty and well cooked breakfast and with good advice on how to get there best left for the ferry. All in all a wonderful stay and we can only recommend this place as a nice harbour in Wellington.

P.S. Actually it was hard to stop the host from carrying our luggage.
