If you want to try some wine and eat some tasty tapas in a convivial atmosphere with friendly, helpful staff...check out the Wine Loft in Wellington. You can sample 50cl glasses of a wide range of NZ and other wines - a great way to check out some of the vintages from this country that didn't come up on any wine tour you had a chance to take. For example, we got to sample some fab 'minerally' Sauvignon from the Atawere Valley (much more interesting than the 'grapefruit overdose' stuff you often get in Kiwiland) such as Clos Margeurite and some excellent Rieslings from elsewhere in NZ. Manager Shaun Blackburn (a fellow Pom from Burnley, England) was good value - with loads of chat and plenty of tasting suggestions. Not a cheap night out (but then none were in NZ this time round) but worth a splurge.
