We dined at Cobar in a party of 6 on a perfect Wellington evening. This wasn't our first visit, but we hadn't been there for some time.
The service, atmosphere, menu and wine list, and the actual meals at Cobar matched the impeccable weather to a T. The food was delicious, in particular the Pork Belly, one of my favourite plates, was the best I have had anywhere. A real treat, with friendly, responsive but very respectful staff, excellent value and highly recommended.

“If you don't expect too much, this is perfect”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

The joy of Cobar really is in the getting there. Leave your four-wheeled gas guzzler at the wharf in Wellington and board the feisty harbour ferry for a cruise on a nice day before disembarking on the wharf on the eastern shore within walking distance of Cobar.

The restaurant itself is a strange fishbowl like affair, which for most of the year in Wellington is what you need. Outside is nice too, but lacks the view unless you want to squeeze in with the filthy smokers on the balcony.

The decor is post modern eighties and the service is quite good.

The food is average to good and will leave you satisfied.

“Very enjoyable, great views”
Reviewed June 10, 2012 via mobile

Very happy with this elegant restaurant. A fitting complement to the Eastbourne experience.
Smoked fish soup: fantastic taste and presentation.
Pan fried salmon: a fraction under cooked for my tastes- but otherwise perfect, a fine gustatory creation.
Fresh orange juice, perfect.
The fireplace was a welcome sight on a cold winters night.

take the East by West ferry to Cobar in Days Bay for a fabulous lunch.
Even in winter you can often sit out on the deck.
