Description: Pravda translates to mean "The Truth". And nothing could be more honest about Wellington's coffee culture than this cafe, bar and bistro. Set in the heart of the city amongst the hustle and bustle of share traders, commuters and visitors to the Lambton shopping precinct, Pravda is located in an elegant building with towering vaulted ceilings and hanging chandeliers of crystal. The menu includes classic European dishes as you would expect of a busy modern bistro. Pravda is home to Wellington's Immigrant's Son Coffee brand. Pravda as the name implies offers the honest simplicity of bistro food, freshly roasted coffee, wines of the world and the welcome of an old friend.

We had a variety of main courses in our group and some were very good and some were more average. The variety and flavours were nice and the service was very good. The restaurant was quite noisy in places and at times which is great for a younger crowd but less good if you want a conversation. However, overall we felt the restaurant really warranted only 3 stars and not 4, although it could be higher on a different night.

Met good friends for an early supper before a concert....On booking, we advised the time we needed to be leaving for the concert; everything went comfortably well. It was so relaxing, it was as if the clock had stopped.
The food was excellent and the staff brilliant, well deserving the tip we left. Great choice of wines and cocktails and well structured menue. We'll be going back when next in Wellington.

Went to this restaurant last week with a work group. We had snapper, chicken, beef and salmon all of which were exceptionally good. There was a slight mix up with one order which was quickly sorted along with the offer of free veges and wine - unexpected but very welcome! The deserts were equally as good. Would recommend without hesitation - fabulous!

We've dined at Pravda before so were expecting the same great food. Sadly not to be for dinner..salmon brushetta had a metallic taste so couldnt eat it. Advised the lovely waitress who mentioned something about a lesson learnt(?). Potatoes were overcooked to the extend I couldnt eat them, weird tasting fried skin on the plate was inedible (acommpanied the corn fed chicken) and rocket salad was way over dressed to the extent it was dripping wet.
They need to pay more attention to service - coach your people how to deal with an issue such as complaining about something inedible rather than just give an awkward remark. If you charge $8 for a side of brocoli then dont just dump it on the plate with some parmesan cheese but pay attention to the presentation. If this restuarant is representing Simon Gault then perhaps he needs to pay them a visit as there are many other places who charge less for excellent food and provide great service. Perhaps he can also dust the tops of the leather bench seating while he's there!
Wont be going back....

This is the first time that we leave a tip at a restaurant in New Zealand (where it's not customary or expected) because it is the best service we've had. Exceptional front of the house and a charming American waitress who was funny, knowledgeable and personable. Food arrived quickly despite this being a busy Thursday night. Wellington is full of good restaurants but Pravda ticks all boxes especially excellent service. Please send some of these to Auckland.
