Description: Set in the heart of the city, Pravda Café & Grill is a Wellington institution; the perfect place to go for everything from a morning espresso to a leisurely lunch, afternoon drink or dinner out. In Russian, Pravda means “the truth”. Hence the eatery’s focus on honest, produce-led dishes that use the very best ingredients New Zealand has to offer. The daytime menus offer flavourful café favourites given a modern spin, along with freshly ground Immigrant’s Son coffee. The cheese scones are world-famous in Wellington, while the breakfast and lunch dishes run the gamut from contemporary egg dishes to innovative salads, burgers and sandwiches, and bistro classics. By night, Pravda is Wellington’s best steakhouse, with a carefully curated selection of exceptional cuts, informed by the menu at Pravda’s siblings, the iconic Jervois Steak House restaurants. At Pravda, a warm welcome always awaits you.

Nice atmosphere, great service, lovely building. Food was a good standard, some meals a little disappointing (including the cameralised pear tart, which wasn't as described on the menu). I've since been back and eaten in the bar area, where the service was again good, and the food was lovely.

Went for dinner here with a group of friends. Very good service and the food was good too.
A little rowdy with the high ceilings but that not a complaint and just adds to the atmosphere.
All in all it was an enjoyable evening.

I realise that Simon Gault has been focussing on his new restaurant development around Shed 5 but he has a serious problem developing at Pravda. i used to like this place, but the service has deteriorated noticeably in recent months and now there are real issues over long delays waiting for food to be cooked and prepared by the kitchen. I also have some issues over the wine prices being charged, but that is a secondary concern.

I would not recommend this restaurant to any discerning diner. The service was so slow, the meals are sooo over priced, the servings are sooo small, and the wine prices are astronomical. I have dined out a lot in NZ and the world, this would be the worst value, service, and cost I have come across. To top it off it has a Master Chief as it's owner, no less than a Simon Gault.

Went to lunch and unfortunately not the best service with the waitress getting the wrong order however made the Truffle fries complimentary. Perhaps the truffle oil was nearby however no evidence it hit the fries at any point and the 'wrong' order of corn fritters was very ordinary. Lovely ambience so hopefully a better experience another time.
