We recently dined at Martin Bosley's for Valentine's Day and had the degustation menu. It was amazing! Such a gorgeous table with view of the city, yachts and harbour. The service was fabulous and the food was divine. The presentation of the food was impeccable and so creative; the incredible flavours were matched with the delicious recommended wines. A real treat to visit!

This is one of those "Wow" factor restaurants before you get any food. The harbour lights on a clear night and the red roses get overlooked.
The food is absolutely superb as well.

The restaurant overlooks the harbour and its yachts, and is designed so that everyone shares the view. Restaurant as tourist attraction? Maybe, but Martin Bosley's shows how what a good thing that can be. The food and wine list (and beer list) show the best of New Zealand, and the country's concern to protect its environment. The fish is sustainably fished, and cooked with imagination. Try the day's sashimi platter, which is a great selection of Japanese-inspired dishes. The staff are friendly, and attentive without being too fussy. For non-fish eaters, there's a good range of meat dishes. Or go for broke on the degustation. It's moderately expensive, and worth it. The affordable treat is attractively presented and well cooked fish and chips with a glass of wine for $30, only on Sunday nights.

Be sure to book way in advance to be treated to the best service, view and meal in Wellington! Our choice of fish was varied and and prepared perfectly. My husband who is a fisherman and has eaten many catches said it was the best fish dinner he had ever eaten! Not inexpensive, but well worth the fine dining experience.

My husband and 2 adult daughters while holidaying in Wellington, had a wonderful meal at Martin Bosley on Saturday 12 January. This was our first visit and I chose it partly because we could be dropped off by the tour bus we were on. We had come directly from the LOTR Ultimate Movie Tour and were famished. We were served quickly. We shared two entrées; Trio of Tartars and the Sashimi Plate, hoping to have room to try some dessert. The coffee-cured Kingfish Pastrami was divine! The sashimi was absolutely fresh. My husband enjoyed his Roasted Beef Fillet, Beef Cheek Bourguignon, Pumpkin Purée, Baby Leeks, Chestnuts and our daughters enjoyed their Slow-Roasted Pigs Head, Crispy Skin, Braised Radish, Pea Stew, Potato Gnocchi, Young Onion, Kimchi, Apple Pudding. I am not sure if they were expecting a whole pigs head to be served! but it was served very pleasingly in civilized cuts. I am very particular about how my fish is cooked, and so was a little wary ordering it, having read previous reviews. But my Fish La Plancha (rudder fish, one of the fish of the day) was perfectly cooked. I stress the word "perfectly". We shared a bowl of Mixed field Leaves (love your Vinaigrette) and Vegetables of the day. Did we have room for dessert? Unfortunately not. So next time we shall skip the entrée and have a main and dessert. Yes, we will definitely return.
