The kitchen sources the freshest seasonal produce available, and are always happy to accommodate dietary requirements and requests. The Heritage setting of the restaurant, also known as Plimmer House, is a delightful Wellington landmark. Plimmer house is named after John Plimmer, the notable Wellingtonian who was officially bestowed the title 'Father of Wellington'. To help celebrate a special occasion we can organise flowers, champagne and a delicious house-baked chocolate cake. We have set menus for 10 or more if you are organising a function. Roast dinners, a traditional favourite, are available every Sunday evening from 6.00Pm with our "Roast & Red" special, and this includes a delicious homemade dessert and a glass of red.The private dining room seating 10 - 16 for lunch or dinner is also perfect for conferences or work functions with full catering services to suit your needs

This was a truly beautiful meal. Simple, with fresh ingredients and great taste. the homemade linguine with roasted vegetables and pesto sauce was amazing. The staff say not many order it because it lives in the shadow of some house favourites and specialties, but I'd recommend it. Best restaurant in Wellington, and thank you to Air New Zealand who highlighted its existence to me by collaborating with the restaurant for inflight meals.

The food and service was fabulous. Cute little building.. looked like a gingerbread house. Helpful with the wine matching

I don't mean to put down those with allergies and intolerances by labelling them as "fussy" but i could not think of a one word description that would encompass such traits. I was taken there by a friend who was both gluten and lactose intolerant. The menu was very clearly marked with "GF" and "DF" to denote Gluten-free and Dairy-free respectively plus a whole load of other annotations (e.g. vegan, contains nuts etc). In fact the chef is very amiable to cater for specific requests so you could request say a gluten-free version of a dish that was not marked as such. They even had gluten-free bread!

For us regular eaters, there was plenty of good choice and the meal was indeed superb.

We used trip advisor to chose a restaurant and the flip of a coin was Boulcott or Hippotamus.
We chose the wrong restaurant. The building , decor and ambience were lovely. The bar and alcohol choices (no cocktails) was well stocked. The Service was excellent but the food a great disappointment. The Venison Osso bucco was tough and lacking in flavour. The lamb shanks were no different and absolutely no flavour that salt and pepper did little to improve. Fortunately one can't go too wrong with salad and we skipped desert due to poor mains. A great disappointment

The BSB is in an old wooden cottage jammed between newer buildings.its the high end price wise for Wellington but cheap by outside NZ standards. It's a casual atmosphere with very good food...and a great wine list. Service is smart. So no reason not to go.m
