We stayed at Rydges Wellington on Christmas Day 2012. We booked the lead-in room type on Expedia, but on entering our room we were delighted to find that it was a fantastic corner room on a high floor with floor-to-ceiling windows and awesome city views. Not sure if they upgraded us or just gave us a great room, but either way we were very happy. Had dinner at Portlander, the hotel's restaurant, which was merely okay...not as good as we'd heard. Service quality was excellent, with help finding places to eat on Christmas, as well as letting us check in early. Highly recommend this hotel--great, personal service which makes it feel like a classy independent hotel rather than a faceless chain.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room. It shouldn't cost extra. And remember to leave the AC on or it can get ve...

Thank you for sharing your Christmas Day with us, sounds like you were right at home with us over the festive time! Our corner rooms are fantastic, and make up part of our lead in room type. Thanks for your recommendation, would love to hear more about your experience at Portlander if you could email me chelsea_laing@rydges.com that would be great. See you again soon.

I always stay at the Rydges on Featherston when in Wellington.
The rooms are large, with 2 queen beds. Bathroom with bath and mini kitchen.
The pool, spar and sauna great.
All the staff are friendly and very helpful.
I like the Astoria cafe near by. The breakfast is amazing !
Thankyou so much !

We deliberately chose this hotel/room because it had a kitchenette, a harbour view, and pool/spa. The harbour view and pool were OK but that's where the good news ends. On arrival there was insufficient cutlery for two people and virtually no cooking pots or utensils; we had to seek those out from housekeeping staff. Wi-fi was free for only 20 mins per day, then charged excessively compared to other NZ accommodation providers. We stayed 5 days but the room cleaning was less than proficient, and the tea/coffee was not replenished. We left our remarks on a feedback sheet (with contact details) at the reception desk on departure, but no-one has been in touch to follow up. Do they care ? For a 4* hotel in a capital city this was disappointing.

Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The location is within easy walking distance of the waterfront and Lambton Quay. Our room had a kettle, toaster, microwave and hotplate, which would be great for longer stays.

We stayed here on New Years Eve and weren't disappointed. We got a free upgrade and were impressed with the size of the suite - huge kitchen/dining/living space and bathroom.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Close to everything within the city.

We didn't have a view do the harbour but this didn't bother us but might be disappointing for others.

Great location within walking distance of downtown shops, museums and restaurants. Hotel check-in was efficient and the room (suite) was good with a partial view of the harbour. Slightly disappointed that the kitchenette had a washing machine but no means of drying any clothes we washed. A retractable line in the bathroom or a portable clothes dryer would have been appreciated although the staff did offer to dry any clothes in the hotel dryer - good service. Internet is a bit pricey at $60 for 3 days. Room service was quick and the food excellent. The breakfast is also fantastic with lots of choice of hot and cold buffet items and eggs made to order. The staff in the restaurant are very friendly and helpful although the girl playing barista needs to understand that having to wait nearly 30 minutes for a coffee and a pot of tea whilst we watch takeaway cups disappearing into the kitchen isn't a good look.

Thanks for your review, great to hear you enjoyed our fantastic location. Please note our suites are fitted with washing/drying machines, therefore are an all in one unit. Glad you enjoyed our breakfast concept but agree 30 minute wait for coffee and tea is not acceptable, I have passed your comments onto the Food and Beverage Manager.

First impressions when I arrived at the hotel was not the greatest. The hotel looked ok. Front reception staff never smiled and seemed uninterested except those in the restaurant they were very lovely. Great attitudes maybe they should work on the front desk!! The conceirge gave us the wrong directions to dressmart was told to jump off at Linden station, but this was incorrect as dressmart is like 30mins from Linden, but only 5mins if I jumped off at Takapau Rd - Lucky I checked with the train staff. Rooms are extremely small!! We had a 2x double bedroom. The beds seemed like king singles than doubles. My husband and I could barely fit on it together - way too much furniture in the rooms which takes up a lot of space - remember less is more!! The tv takes up the whole of the desk so there leaves less space to place lugguage. The shower is a bath shower which is so old school and is just horrible. But what I did enjoy was the facilities - the spa and pool. The sauna did seem to be working well and the gym only has a treadmill and cycle. However, memberships to a gym is free of charge at reception. The breakfast is to die for!! Probably the best thing about the hotel is the restaurant. Yummy food would definitely go to Rydges for brekkie loved the milkshakes, spirilina, pancakes, croissants etc Location wise it is close to the train station, waterfront and lambton quay, however if you want more of a buzz of the city find a hotel close to Cuba St

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us, apologies our concierge has given you the wrong directions. We try to ensure our concierge team are knowledgeable in these areas and we do have an ongoing refresher training around all things Wellington. All of our twin rooms feature two double beds, and also have rooms available with one king bed which may have been more suited to your needs. Great to hear you enjoyed our leisure facilities and our amazing breakfast. Your comments are timely as the TV’s in all of our accommodation rooms are being wall mounted.
