I was here for business for a couple of days . My room overlooked a wall of offices and a corrugated iron roof but once I closed the curtains, all was well and it was very comfortable, however house-keeping had neglected to leave shampoo and body lotion - I'm noticing this is becoming more and more of a problem in every hotel I've stayed in, so it's not just an issue with Rydges. The bar was great; as a solo female traveller I felt comfortable going there alone and having a drink. The restaurant, Plate, is also excellent. Will definitely stay there again next time I'm in Wellington

Friendly reception staff, very accommodating – allowed both early check-in and late check-out. Standard room was a decent size and had a small balcony. Relatively quiet, comfortable bed, quite a small television, had a good choice of channels. Room had a large bathroom, with an excellent shower over bath. Frosted glass wall separates bed from bathroom – nice idea, lets natural light from the room in to the bathroom. Unfortunately means that if you turn on the bathroom light at night you also light up the bedroom and could wake up your partner with the light. Small kitchenette in the room an excellent additional feature. Breakfast was $29 but worth it, very tasty. Would certainly consider staying here again.

The hotel is in an excellent location in Wellington - great for Parliament, railway, ferries, waterfront, cafes etc
Although 4 star it is not as up market as when it was previously a Holiday Inn hotel. Recommend booking an executive room - have more space & kitchen area but poor luggage space. Good bathrooms with quality toiletries.

Hotel was very good value for money and centrally located in Wellington, I was a short walk away from the central business district and shopping centre.

I have stayed at this hotel 5+ twice since Rydges have taken over, never had a bad experience at this hotel. Rooms are what i think the best in Wellington, modern, roomy, and comfortable. All rooms do have the frosted window between the bathroom/room and only the king rooms have a blind the king rooms have no blind, bit awkward but not a biggie. Just a tip about the parking as it is pricey and what i normally do is park my car at the Wilson park under the Intercontinental, once i have finished with it for the night. This cost me $12 as they have a night rate $4 per 6 hours. Its about a 5-7 minute walk away.

Breakfast is 5 star and worth the money if you can spare it.

As for other places to eat i can recommend Chicago next to the TSB arena on the water front or One Red dog also on the waterfront. Ther is Mcdonalds just around the corner from Rydges also.

A group of us stayed here for a weekend in a mix of 2 double bed harbour view rooms and 1 bed suites. The location was great - near the railway station and walking distance to lampton quay shops, te papa and Courtney st/Cuba st. The rooms were great - nice and big and no issue with the glass wall between the bathroom and room as our rooms had pull down blinds for privacy. Only issue was the pillows were a little thin. They do have a pillow menu but they had run out of thicker pillows. We will book this hotel again.
