Slightly eccentric, parlty pedestrianised this is the bohemian centre of the city filled with coffee bars and all types and grades of eateries and entertainments from the Bucket Fountain, buskers to Gospel Choirs and of course lots of shops
178 Cuba Street is the coffee bar that turned Cuba Street's fortunes around in the 60's by serving coffee after midnight and while somewhat faded it still has an edgy ambience of those earlier dark days in Cuba Street's past
There is also a night market in a cul de sac called Left Bank on a Frioday night which is an adventure all of its own - enjoy!

Love Cuba Street....always something to see an some ver good restaurants. Also a night market on Friday nights although we didn't think too much of it. Quite A few food stalls and a Few trinkets plus some reasonably good musicians. Felt quite safe in the area. Ha dinner at RASA Malaysian restaurant. Excellent food and service. But tables very close together so be careful negotiating your way through them. We - unfortunately, knocked over a bottle of water on someone else's table twice! Thankfully no damage.

Went on a venture to roam the streets to find a way to Te Papa Museum not knowing that Cuba Street is the main shopping strip.Wich was nice to check out the shops and stop in Mr.Bun bakery & coffee shop for something to eat.

There are two Universities in this area, so the students have changed this area over the years. Quite unique. Really small coffee bars, music coming out from small restaurants and a stunning coffee shop and french style patisserie down the Town Hall end which my son says is the best in Wellington . Lots of small shops with specialist products like wood cutouts which you can assemble as 3D, so good for presents.

The Cuba Quarter of Wellington is only a couple of kms away from the corporate boardrooms of the Lambton Quarter and the Terrace, with all the banks, name brand shops, and the general grey suited business area of Wellington. Its vibrant, full of characters and character shops, from quirky fashion designers to Cuban influenced restaurants, an Irish Bar or two, some cool jazz clubs and some full on alt music clubs. You will find treasures here that you can find nowhere else in Wellington, or for that matter in any other city in New Zealand. Street performers abound, kids play at the bucket fountain, a weird and wonderfully quirky part of the landscape. You can search out old cds and vinyl lps, buy a mandolin or a full PA rig at the music stores, have the best coffee in the world at Havana Bar, stay in a lovely redeveloped hotel, eat the hottest rancheros outside of Mexico, buy a weird hat or some funky shoes, have a goat curry at Rasa or fine dining at Logan Browns, or see the latest offerings by some of Wellingtons best artists at the gallery at Thistle Hall. Cuba Quarter is a must see when visiting Wellington. My favourite part of the city
