Review of Akatarawa Forest

Akatarawa Forest
Reviewed February 19, 2014

Good for day walks, mountain biking, motorcross and 4x4ing. It can become quite busy. There are lots of ways to get into the forest - from official signposted entryways too random entrances. Just be sure not to get lost :)

It is a photogenic forest, it makes the forest seem absolutely wonderful, it's very quiet with animal activity at the moment but hopefully that will pick back up soon. There are plenty of spots to stop for a snack and admire the view.

1080 has been dropped in the forest, so watch out for dead animals and the poison itself. Don't let dogs off leads. Give the warning signs a read for more information.

Once you get a little deeper into the forest, you'll discover delights that aren't evident in your initial foray.
The Maungakotukutuku Entrance has some fabulous walks with great views over Kapiti.
Do look out for the motorcross bikes on Perhams Road
