Situated in the Government sector just next to the Ministry of Justice. Close to rail and bus terminals and only a short walk from the CBD. Very comfortable apartment with all the mod cons.

We had two great nights at Aitken on Mulgrave, our room was on the corner of the building and had windows facing both streets. Our room was smallish, and didn't have easy chairs, but well appointed kitchen, good TV and adequate bathroom. Limited reception over the Easter weekend, but the room was serviced on Saturday. Quiet at night, with Subway and Vanilla Cafe downstairs and The Backbencher and Thistle Inn just around the corner. Only a short walk to the bus station and a $2 bus fare along to Courtney Place - absolutely ideal. One of the better places we've stayed in Wellington.

Travel often from Sydney to Wellington on business and find this property convenient to all companies, government departments and transportation that is needed.
Its all I want and even has full kitchen and laundry with a Supermarket only a block away.
Generally reception will contact you before hand as to checking arrangments if arriving after 8pm otherwise best to call property if you havent received intructions.
Incidentally also stayed here before for a World Cup match and its only 5 minutes walking to the Westpac Stadium.

Rooms itself not too bad and convenient for railway station. However, arrived at 1705 to see receptionist just leaving. Were told that as we had not checked in by 1700, they sent us an email about an hour before to give us access instructions, on the basis that "everyone checks their email on iphone these days". Obviously we are not the type of people that class themselves as so important that they think the world will stop revolving if they don't instantly access their emails when on holiday. Grudgingly then given keys. No towels in room, had to call for help. Very hot with limited window opening, and one of teh two rooms had a view of a blank wall. Not impressed!

Perfectly functional for a short stay. Our room small but there are better sized rooms. Only problem we found was when arriving out of hours the access wasn't straightforward.

Stayed for one night between arriving on the Overlander from Auckland and taking the next morning's Interislander. Arrived on a Sunday and the reception is closed, so they leave you keys and instructions in a lockbox (they even send you a reminder for the procedure the day before). Once I actually saw the lockbox it was rather straightforward. Room is decent sized, with kitchen, all very clean and quiet. Didn't hear any other guests and no noise from the street, so very restful sleep. There is also a cafe and Subway right next door. Would definitely stay there again.

This is the third time I have stayed at the Aitken and every time has been a good stay. Well located - not far from the railway station and buses, a short walk to the Wellington shops (evening meals can be a little more challenging if you are on foot). The room was well equipped for a short stay with a kitchenette. OK, it wasn't a spacious room but it was big enough. Anyway, who plans to spend their holiday inside their room?

I had a room facing Aitken Street but there was little in the way of street noise to trouble me (The first time I stayed there about 5 years ago, I had a room on the other side looking out over vacant land that now has a big building on it - hence some of the recent bad reviews). Altogether, a great place to stay in Wellington for the price - my preferred choice.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing Aitken or Mulgrave Street to avoid a "room without a view"
