We took the cable car on the downward journey, there is a small building at the top housing an original museum piece cable car along with a very small souvenir shop. There are obstructed views over the harbour outside the platform. Once you board the cable car there really is no further opportunity for views - so this is really about the experience of riding a cable car - which was all done in about five minutes with a station in the middle. Mmmmmmm wouldn’t do it again.

Kia Ora and thank you for visiting. There are three intermediate stations plus two terminals (Lambton Quay and Kelburn). Main views are at the Kelburn Lookout and between Salamanca Station and the Kelburn terminal, do keep in mind that the Cable Car Lambton Quay terminal is right in the middle of the city therefore views can be hidden by buildings and the high way. Cable Car travels through three tunnels, two are decorated with light shows and over three bridges.

Before you buy a round trip ticket I would consider buying a one way up then walk down through the botanical garden. You can also view the parliament buildings as well. Saves a few dollars and you get plenty of exercise.

A tradition stretching back to the early 1900s and the only way some people have of getting to work. Great views over the harbour and the Botanic Gardens and Observatory there for you to visit also so well worth a trip.

Look in the free cable car museum for the history of this and rather than just looking at the view, walk the 500mts to kelburn for a coffee or beer before going back into the centre of Wellington.

Only $9 return per adult

Must see in Wellington New Zealand was the billing... they were right.
we were very impressed that in the middle of a busy city there is an outstanding Cable Car that takes folks to the top of the mountain, the botanical gardens and magic vistas
