Owner description: The highlight to any visit to Wellington is a trip on Wellington Cable Car. In just 5 minutes you will reach the top of the Botanic Garden where panoramic views of the city and harbour are the reward. You can also visit the Space Place Observatory here. Before you head back down make sure to visit the Cable Car Museum (free entry), which provides a history of the city's symbolic mode of transport and see the original cars and winding machinery on display. There are walking tracks that start at the top of the Cable Car if you're keen on a stroll back to the city. The Cable Cars leave every 10 minutes.

There is not much to say on this one really. It is much like a tram/tube carriage but it is in excellent condition and surprisingly clean for something that gets used so frequently. After a few stops and a short journey you get access to the botanic gardens, cable car museum and observatory, among other things. You also get quite nice views of the city and the harbour. I have been on a similar attraction in Lyon and I have to say the one in Lyon is marginally more impressive, but again the New Zealand welcome makes this a winner. When I was on the cable car there was a young kid there with his mother. The driver really engaged with them and allowed the kid to ring the bell, etc when pulling away from the stops. A nice touch I thought!

Went on a Sunday morning so not at all busy. Purchased return ticket to just go for a ride with my 3 year old daughter as she loves trains. Unfortunately they are busy renovating the top area so that was a bit of a mess however didn't detract from the enjoyment of the ride.

Had a horrible experience with the woman selling the tickets for the Cable Car at the Lambton Quay Terminal.. Rude woman. Other than that the ride up the hill was cool and the cable car museum was awesome. Shame the first member of staff we met was so off putting. Made us quite jaded.

The cable car seems to have been an important part of Wellington's history and the museum is fascinating. It won't take a lot of time to go through and it's worth the time. And, if you take the cable car to the top and then walk back down through the Botanic Garden, it's a lovely time.

This is an amazing ride and not to be missed when you visit Wellington. You have an amazing view as the cable car goes up to the top. Anyone visiting Wellington should make sure you visit the cable car. Especially on a fine day
