“Amazing small meats”
Reviewed July 25, 2013 via mobile

If you're a carnivore you're going to love this place. Amazing local meats (Tahr, venison, lamb, Alpaca) and beautifully put together with local flavors. I would rate this up with French restaurants in Provence.

“Great food, great service, new and different menu”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

Loved it. Small enough to get quality, friendly service. The food was fantastic- duck, alpaca, snails. Yum yum. It was quiet so more people need to go to create an atmosphere.

“Real food”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

This place is a breath of fresh air : a real meat eaterie. I had a pork sandwich with sauerkraut. The place has atmosphere and sophistication - a relief from the insipid trendy Wellington lunch scene.

“From Snout to Tail.”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

A special evening and good company was totally complimented by an exquisite menu derived from specially (open free range farm piggery) selected pigs. These are then butchered on site which results in many cuts of pork not usually available in other restaurants or restaurants.

To say that every part of the animal is used in one way or another is not an understatement. We started with a selection of sausage "canapés" which after first bite had guests practically chasing the
waiting staff around the restaurant seeking more. Quite exquisite and very different tastes dependent upon the particular meat and seasoning mixes (all natural sausage skins of course).

As an entree, Smoked New Zealand Eel Ravioli with garlic white wine cream, provolone piccante and topped with crispy leeks. Not being a big fan of Eel, I approached this dish with some caution and I reserve my own judgement, however those around me voiced strong approval and certainly only empty Entree plates were returned to the kitchen.

The main course was a sensation with one of New Zealand’s latest "Gourmet" fads being presented. Alpacaca! This was done in a Bourguignon style and served with tarragon creamed leek, potato gratin, beetroot and balsamic salad. The Alpacaca meat held its own in what within New Zealand is often a dish used to "dispose" of tougher meats which anywhere else in the world would be called stews.
It was delicious and hopefully in the future we will see this New Zealand farmed meats on many more menus though I doubt if many would be able to match this particular presentation.

The surprise dessert was oven roasted snails (South African) with a parsley and garlic butter baguette

Surprisingly and despite being a totally addicted sugar addict, this dessert actually completed this wonderful excursion through a myriad of exquisite tastes presented by Chef Owners of the Big Bad Wolf.

One of whom addressed our party as to the origins of the vast majority of the dishes served (mostly local, with obvious exceptions of the snails, and fine selection of cheeses).

All in all a thoroughly enjoyable restaurant. I would also recommend people try some of their luncheon sandwich selections, which are also very well worth the short walk from the Wellington CBD.

“Back for a second visit”

Love this place. Fantastic food - simple, but exceptional ingredients. Great craft beer choice. Recommend the pork sammie with Renaissance beer. We will return.
