Great concept for a restuarant and conveniently located on Cuba Street. The restuarant did get smoky with the cooking when the door was shut as it was breezy outside. Good Mojitos!

If this steak restaurant was in Buenos Aires it would not last more than a few days. As a starter the cooking arrangements are nothing more than a small pit of charcoals. At least they use wood but the steaks are finished off in the oven.

The meat was cooked as ordered but dry. The mollejas are lamb and very small. The restaurant is in very poor condition and the state of hygiene behind the counter leaves a lot to be desired. Surprisingly it was quite busy whcih meant very noisy. If you are looking for decent steak in Wellington dont go to Matador

Was sat under the picture of Che Guevuera. The place was buzzing. The interior has been well thought out - I loved it! You really cannot go wrong with Argentinian beef and this place got it beyond right. The smell as you go in is mouthwatering. Staff were really friendly. Great choice of wines. Price wise, it wasn't bad. Would definitely go back but I live on the otherside of the world, so chances are slim. Great place on Cuba Street!

Rustic , spanish come restaurant on the infamous wellington cuba st. Place looks like its been around for a hundred years or so - decor wise , but its only a been operating a few years, would not say its dirty as another reviwer has said, more the theme of the place. Very rustic in appearance, no minimialism here, but the interior decor matchs the whole ambience and rustic food. Service is very attentive, the food is average to good , we had the tapas , whilst some were very good, others a were a bit dissappointing. have had Potatas bravas in Esphana, so didn't quite match up, but not bad. The chimichurri sauce was fresh and tasty, overall food was OK , nothing to rave about. Fair to average wine list and selection of beers
All three of us enjoyed the ambience , food and service and yes we would return again

My two main impressions:
1) dirt everywhere - dirty walls, dirty tables, dirty floor
2) we had tapas and found them barely edible. Patatas Bravas was a huge disappointment - IMHO the tasteless chips they serve under that name have nothing in common with the tasty dish I ate in tapas bars in Spain and elsewhere in the world.
On a positive note, the steaks served at the table next to us, looked quite appetizing - by given the sanitary concerns I would recommend to stay away from that place...
