“Not a restful stay”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2013

Our 4 night stay in Wellington was not as restful as we had hoped. Quest self contained units have been a perfect solution for us in the past- as diet restrictions require that we prepare most of our own food whilst away. The problem with 'The Atrium' is THE ATRIUM! There is no air-conditioning in the room so if you want fresh air you are obliged to open the only doors which face onto the central atrium. It is one big amplifier- every voice, movement, sound is amplified 100 fold- so we simply had to close the doors and thus felt stuffy and hot. The building is dull and tired. Parking was an additional daily charge.

You get what you pay for.

The after hours checkin process, the staff at the front desk, and the location are great. Car parking is available in the building (extra $20/day) but you'd want a small car. Gym was closed during my stay so couldn't use that facility.

However, the building design (rooms grouped around a central, roofed, atrium) means that if you get one of these rooms you're going to be in for a noisy time. Loud conversations and shouting between rooms, TV and music noise, banging doors etc from other rooms even on other levels echo throughout meaning everyone gets to "enjoy" the party. At midnight, on a monday, this gets a little stale, but all nights were the same. No management are apparently on site after hours so they probably have no idea just how noisy it is.

The studio room I had was dark (needed the lights on even during the day) and very small - good for one person, but a couple would have found it very tight if they had luggage as well.

Ultimately you get what you pay for....

Hi There,

Thank you for taking time to place feedback, I am sorry to hear the stay wasnt satisfactory. The Atrium does have an echoed noise, but the building itself has a strict noise policy and an on call manger 24 hours. our after hours service can be contacted any time and noise problems will be dealt with by a manager on site.
We also offer one bedroom apartments which have external facing balconies.
We are also looking at ways to improve the lighting situation.

Kind regards,

Aaron

We booked a two bedroom unit, on the 9th floor, initially the maitre'de could barely understand my english, the room was on level 9, nice foyer and lift, room was awful it smelled like a cross between curry and cheap perfume. I had clean dishes left for me to put away in the dishwasher, not vacummed, staines on the walls (old cooking oil or similar). Beds were hard and had seen better days, broken door in the main bedroom (not fixed during our 3 night stay).

Not serviced at all for the 3 nights, washing machine took 5 hours to do one load, then eventually died - no apology but I must have got something stuck.
Would not reccommend staying here, one of the most expensive places in the city, quality similar to that of a low cost back packers. Had to pay for parking and internet.

We were booked to stay 2 nights in this hotel, but our flight from New Plymouth was cancelled due to bad weather and we had to get a bus to Wellington the next day. Still had to pay for the room even though it was impossible to get to Wellington the day before - no hire cars available and no bus service. The room was cramped, included a sofa and a kitchenette which may suit some, nowhere to put any bags, had a balcony but facing onto an "indoor" atrium - any sound was shared by us all. The bathroom was terrible for a couple - it may have been meant for disabled access, have no idea why it was given to us, no vanity or space to put anything, no shower screen so a shower sent water everywhere over the floor, even with the water on low and the showerhead pointed down. Would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask about the bathroom in your room and get an outside facing room.

We booked a studio apartment over looking the atrium. We hardly got any sleep as others came and went all night and into early hours of the morning. No consideration was given to those that wanted to sleep, doors continually banged shut and other guests shouted down the hallways. The next morning we asked at the desk if there was a quieter room somewhere we could stay. The man at the desk was very helpful and considerate to our needs. He upgraded us to another suite that did not face onto the atrium. This was much quieter and we got the much needed sleep we didn't get on our first night. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. For you ladies trying to apply makeup the bathroom was a little dark however this has often been our experience at other hotel stays. There was good parking and it was very central. A real disappointment was that there was no spa as advertised and unfortunately this is what made me book the quey apartments in the first place. A bit of false advertising nere. The pool, gym, and sauna area are not owned by the quey apartments and close mid afternoon. This to was very disappointing as we would have liked to have been able to access these facilities in the evenings once we were back at the apartment..

Room Tip: Don't book a room in the atrium if you want a good nights sleep

We stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment on the 9th floor. Our group consisted of a total of five made up of three adults and two kids. On the plus side there was heaps of space, two bathrooms, modern kitchen. Overall the apartment was great for our needs and accommodated us well. The apartment was clean, although in places a little tired e.g. marks on ceilings and bathroom tiles could be in better shape but nothing that was bad enough to put us off the place. The swimming pool was great, didn't use the gym but that appeared well equipped.
