Owner description: Be embraced by the beauty of this gorgeous wooden cathedral - still sacred, welcoming to all, in the heart of Wellington's heritage precinct. Breathtakingly beautiful - Wellington's famous Old St Paul's, constructed entirely of native timbers, is one of New Zealand's greatest heritage places. Experience the wonderful and sometimes quirky stories of this former cathedral church, its historic location and its people. Gaze at Old St Paul's unique colonial architecture, admire its exquisite embroidered furnishings and be awed by the colours of its beautiful stained glass windows. It is a magnificent example of timber Gothic Revival architecture. Visit the Gift and all-year-around Christmas Shop at Old St Paul's, which features exquisite gifts, NZ keepsakes and beautiful Christmas decorations, advent calendars and nativity scenes. There is something to suit every taste. The site where Old St Paul's stands was formerly part of Pipitea Pa. For almost 100 years, Old St Paul's served as the parish church of Thorndon and the Anglican Cathedral of Wellington. It remains a place of spiritual significance to many and also has become a popular venue for a wide variety of cultural events.

“Better then new one”
Reviewed January 17, 2014

The ageless wooden beams gives this church more feeling then the newer bland cathedral. You can get a guided tour but the place it self gives you all you need to know or learn about it, it's (old) yet not very old age makes you feel warm within its wood structure.

“Beautiful Church”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

Old St. Paul's is a beautiful church, full of dark wood paneling and history. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. It won't take you long to have a look around, and it's close to many other attractions, so I highly recommend stopping by.

Reviewed January 8, 2014

We stopped in to see this Cathedral as part of a Rover half day tour of the City and surrounds. This Cathedral has so much charm, history and wonderful architecture. Strongly suggest you stop in to see it.

“Attended a wedding. A lovely venue”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

Well worth a visit. Lovely stained glass windows. An historic wooden church. The bells were rung for the wedding and the atmosphere was perfect. Easy to find but not much parking in the area.
