Very heloful and friendly staff. We arrived early but could store our luggage for free and head back into town untill it was time to check in and settle in our room. Shared a twin room with my friend. it's a little noisy but aslong as you don't open the windows its just fine and I guess that's what you get for a location in town, close to shops and bars.

I had stayed at this backpackers a couple years ago and it didn't seem that bad... But on my return OMG. I payed $90 for 2 nights in a single room (dont book this!) which turned out just to be a room with a single bed and wall mirror inside a matchbox. Neither the window or curtains shut properly which sucked because the duvet (heavily stained) was a summer weight and there was also a heavy smell of air freshener which obviously is used to mask the stench of urine that lingers in the hostel. The bathroom was just so discusting. No soap topped up by staff, the same hand towels used for the entire weekend, toilets not cleaned at all nor was the shower...showers smelt like fish and I'd rather have washed by a tap outside. The only thing good about this hole is the location. The staff are too busy getting wasted to do any cleaning. Unless you're totally desperate DON'T STAY HERE !!!

We stayed here twice, once before talking the ferry to the south island and then again when arriving in the ferry from the south island. After the 1st time I wanted to change our reservation but we ended up waiting too long and couldn't cancel. Anyway, it's not hard to find (giant zebra striped building) but I can imagine parking could be an issue. We were lucky and found a spot in front both times and because it was a weekend or holiday we didn't have to pay the meters. The good part is the location, walking distance to a ton of restaurants and bars. Downside is the condition of the hostel and the rooms. The bed was quite small and the (ensuite) bathroom was tiny. The room might have been clean but it didn't seem like it because if stains on the carpet and the poor condition of the furniture. On the 2nd time we stayed it was new years and granted we new there would be some drunk people, but we were woken up at 3am but some guy who was locked out of his room and knocking to get in. This continued for about 10 mins straight. So overall, not great soundproofing in the rooms. Just seems kind of run down and the owners don't care.

Wellyworld is a huge hostel that seems to cater to people staying for months as opposed to a few days. So be prepared to feel forgotten about if you are one of the handful of people actually traveling through.

Wellywood spans multiple floors of the building and it takes a bit to figure out where the common areas are-- there is no introduction from the staff when you check in. This place holds hundreds of people and luckily the facilities are equipped for it. There are plenty of bathrooms and a very large and spacious kitchen and common area. It has everything you could want, it just feels cold and unwelcoming.

We spent our first night freezing in a dorm room, since the beds we were given had no blankets. We had asked about this the night before, but were told that the beds were made up for us at check in. We were confused, but the night staff came across as so sure of this that we didn't want to continue to question it. The next day we were told by a staff member that one of the longer term residents had asked for some extra blankets and the night staff had told her to just grab one off a neighboring bed. The staff member brought us each another blanket for our next night, but it goes to show that there is a lot of confusion and not a lot of organization. Plus, it just felt like the staff didn't really care.

There are plenty of places in Wellington to stay at. Although this was the only place we experienced during our travels here, i am confident that there are better places to stay.

Although the staff were extremely helpful and efficient when I booked a double room at really short notice, the hostel itself was a bit of a let down. The bin in our bedroom was full of someone's body hair - boke. The communal bathrooms were really dirty and people in the next rooms can also be heard really clearly. Fine if you are on a very tight budget but otherwise I would avoid here.

Room Tip: I would recommend that you request a room away from the bathrooms and the sinks that are outside som...

I try to look at the positives in life, but sadly this place nearly ruined my stay in Wellingon.
They tagged an 'event fee' onto our room price, despite never telling us when we booked.
My partner paid, so I took this up when we came to leave. They said 'why didn't your bring this up before' and then accused of lying saying 'I'm sure you can see why it's hard to believe you?'
Free wifi is advertised, but it runs so slow it's hardly worth it.
There were stains on the bed sheets and the whole place was incredibly noisy. It's only saving grace was that is was so bad that it forced us to spend all our time in the city, which was very nice.
