“Comfortable Hotel”
Reviewed January 29, 2014

I have stayed at a number of hotels in Wellington but The InterContinental is always the must consistant. The standard rooms are comfortable and clean and the indoor heated pool is a bonus for those who like a early morning swim.
The location is convenient to the waterfront and a number of restaurants.

My sister and I planned a quick trip to Wellington last July (2013) as we were excited to see the Andy Warhol exhibit that was showing at Te Papa Museum. We had previously stayed at the InterContinental a few years back. The location is nice and central (just a short walk to Te Papa and the shops etc). The hotel experience overall was up to the standard as a few years prior. We also dined at the hotel restaurant Chameleon one evening. The entrees and mains were good and decent portions. The buffet breakfast was included in our room rate and we really enjoyed the selection on offer. The breakfast was gourmet with great presentation that is sometimes lacking at other hotels.

2 nights in Wellington at the end of a driving\walking holiday and definitely the most professionally run hotel we encountered. We were in two interconnecting rooms in the newly renovated part of the hotel. They have done a very good job with these; whilst not overly big, they are very well appointed and extremely comfortable.

Wellington is not exactly the biggest of towns, so the hotels location in the centre is good but doesn't really add much to your stay and is not a factor potential visitors should take into account. I'd also say that if you are on holiday, then 2 days is more than enough time to see Wellington.

Ate in the restaurant for 2 breakfasts and 1 dinner. Breakfast was good, but not amazing. Dinner was really excellent though, biggest menu choice we had seen in a hotel and everything we ordered was top quality.

By far the best aspect though were the staff; without exception they were professional, friendly, and went out of their way to be helpful. When asking about the best restaurants they listened to our preferences, highlighted a few, then arranged for a table at shed 5 (seafood restaurant, very good, directly across from the hotel on the waterfront). Really impressed with the hotel brand and its one I will look out for in future travels.

One piece of advice for new visitors, and nothing to do with the hotel, the international part of the airport does not operate until 13:00 so don't bother getting their any earlier as you can't go through customs and access the airline lounge before then.

Room Tip: Request a renovated room; even the staff say the older rooms are not that good.

A great hotel to stay. Log into free wifi located across road from hotel if you are in the right room. The concierge team are terrific helping you with information re the ferry eating out ordering taxis and what to see. Hotel is centrally located. Room not self contained.

My wife and I are intercontinental ambassador members and we frequent this hotel chain often. The intercon Wellington compares with any other. Perfect location nestled between sprawling Lambton quay and Queens wharf and close to several high end restaurants. The lobby is standard with an easy check in process and the ambassador room upgrade placed us in a brand new wing that still had the new room smell. The bathroom was beautiful and the room perfect. The bed was probably one of the best I've slept in with the luxury pillow menu topping it off. The gigantic LCD TV certainly enhanced the experience. All in all, this was a great stay and I will be back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the newly refurbished wing. You won't be disappointed.

We stayed for three days at the Intercontinental in Wellington. On arrival we upgraded to the club room which gave us a room on the Club Floor, access to the club lounge with breakfast afternoon tea and cheese and wine each evening. It also gave Free Intenet (Although if you join the rewards program for free you get the wi fi at no charge) and Valet Parking. All in all it well worth considering. Unlike the previous reviewer our room was perfect and clean. The staff were so nice and helpful. The location is excellent, literally minutes from everywhere. This is the best place to stay in Wellington without a doubt.

Room Tip: Consider the Club room upgrade on arrival

Let's start with the good bits. The food and staff are excellent. The club lounge is also worth a mention as its worth the extra money to be in a club room.
The bad side, our room. Outdated and in need of refurbishment with stained carpets and old fixtures and fittings. Apparently this is being fixed as one of the club floors is currently being refurbishment.
Our room had not been cleaned properly, maybe not at all! There were numerous hairs in the bed, the carpet had lots of bits on it and the towels had makeup on them. Management did however deal with it very promptly and were very apologetic and gave us $50 of our dinner.
We would stay again although only if were we guaranteed a refurbished room.
Recommend you ask for a refurbishment room.
Paul
