“Conference Accommodation”
Reviewed September 6, 2012 via mobile

We had our conference here and the client interaction was awesome. The chauffeur car is awesome service they provide for a reasonable cost. Just found the bathroom in my room a bit tired with paint coming off in the bath itself and the vanity unit top broken. But otherwise a great destination and super handy to the city itself. Thanks so much to the awesome concierge team!

The staff and service are up to the high standard of ICH.
The decor and the rooms are really letting down the brand. While the TV in-room has been refreshed, the rest of the decor and room facilities are tired and more suitable to a 3 star.
I find the WiFi subscription to be particularly objectionable when paying business room rates. $30/day is crazy these days and is simply gouging.
If it weren't for the staff, I'd stay somewhere else.

Very much an InterContinetal Property. Every thing was the Best. The Service is the Best The Rooms was as I hoped. Dinner and the Service was very good. Good Shopping near by, the Best Buys were at the Real Aotearoa, better than at Te Papa Museum, ask about the discount for "over seas visitors".

Room Tip: A room with a view is nice.

I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Wellington Intercontinental Hotel, which is supposedly a five Star rating hotel, and am disappointed to report that I spent four nights in a tired, grotty room that would barely suffice for a three star hotel.

I stayed in one of their “accessibility rooms” something that their website makes some play of, being very proud to have 11 such room at the hotel. This should not be used as an excuse for letting the room become so grotty and run down. Added to this is the fact that it is actually rather a let down for someone who does actually require the additional “support” of an accessibility room.

The room doesn’t look like it has been renovated since the 1980’s and is tired and grotty. It even has a console between the two beds that has a built in radio, with 10 pre-set stations, which I’m sure was the height of technology, 20 years ago, but not what you expect of a fiver star hotel in 2012.

Setting aside aesthetics, there were a number of more important issues:

• a 10-15cm long crack in the hand basin
• the telephone by the bed has been so used that one of the call buttons at the bottom is missing, the plastic around the room service button is worn and dirty
• peeling wallpaper at the skirting board in at least 2 prominent places
• The telephone in the bathroom looks to date from the 80’s – it even has an old NZ post logo on it… ie from when Telecom was part of the Post office – and the cord is so stretched that it needs to be wrapped around the phone
• pink mould growing around the waste outlet of the shower
• the bathroom fittings are all worn
• the “accessibility” shower does not have anywhere to sit, you need to perch on the side of the bathtub, which doesn’t even have a thick comfortable rim, requiring you to roll up a towel to sit on
• the doorways and passageway are no wider that the usual, and there is on more space in the room to manoeuvre if you are on crutches or in a wheel chair that would be the case in a normal room
• the air conditioning rattles in the night, even after it had been “fixed’ once.

In all, one has to say that the room barely merits a three star rating, let alone a five star.

On the positive side, I have to say that the staff were extremely professional and helpful and I couldn’t fault them at all. The pubic spaces were all of a standard one would expect as were the dining and room service.

However, having relied on the five star rating when making my choice I was extremely disappointed to face such a grotty room

In summary I don’t think they deserve a five star rating until such time as they have taken this room, and any others like it, out of service and renovated them to a standard commiserate to their rates.

Room Tip: Ask them when the room was last renovated!

My wife and I spent a two night stay recently at your hotel, we had booked a mystery stay deal via wotif.com so we were unaware of where we were staying until after the confirmation came back to us and were pleasantly surprised to find we were stayiing at the Intercontinental.

Upon arrival we were checked in by Jo at the front desk, she was down to earth and was very helpful in assisting with any questions we had... she is definitely a asset to your brand.

The location, room and service made the stay very enjoyable and will be back to stay again, thank you.

Location is very good. Rooms were spacious and the beds were comfortable. Bathroom was decent sized too. Ordered late night room service and the staff on were very nice when they delivered it. Didn't get a chance to use the pool/spa but it looks very nice. Porters were helpful too. Would stay again :)

Thank you for your review regarding your stay with us in mid-August. I was pleased to hear you enjoyed your time with us; in particular our spacious rooms. It’s a shame you didn’t get a chance to unwind in Emerge Health Club during your time with us; but I trust you will have the chance to take advantage of this on your next visit to InterContinental Wellington.

My wife and I stayed at the Intercon in Wellington for two nights in August in a suite on the 8th floor. We had access to the Club Lounge on the 9th floor. Our room had a King Bed and separate living room.Overall the quality of the fittings were tired and in need of an upgrade. The room was expensive and one would expect for the price the suite should have been more up to the minute. The bathroom had a spa bath but the room looked a bit dated, there were three locked trap doors to gain access to plumbing I assume, and another locked cupboard in the living room, probably for the same purpose. There was mould above the shower. Overall the room was clean, but there needed to be more attention to detail.
