Excellent Location. A very good experience of all the events that took place especially experiencing and tasting various foods from various nations from all over the world. The atmosphere was excellent with all kinds of nationality interacting with each other especially in the kitchen where everyone meet very often to share their experience of the day and their past experience. Its the little consideration one renders in helping others on a timely manner that matters most. When you share your experience with others than the welcoming feeling is felt and appreciated.

I think when time to come with a little consideration of upgrading the facilities on a timely manner matters most at the St George. A good facelift of the outer appearance is necessary. Flags of many nations could be hung on flag poles outside, on the top floor to highlight that the hotel/hostel is International.

Facilities in the kitchen that need to be upgraded are the stoves. Better and more durable electric stoves. Gas stoves are also ideal for cooking. Ovens for baking would be an advantage.

Ideal indoor recreation facilities are table tennis, darts, scrabble, checkers, chess.

Chess, scrabble and checkers could be loaned from the reception and returned in proper condition for a small deposit.

One or two table tennis table would be ideal in the dining area. Table tennis bats and balls could be loaned from the reception as well.

Allocation for a place for darts board would be ideal and darts could also be loaned from the reception and to be returned in good or appropriate condition.

After hours grocery vending machine are ideal source of services.

Room Tip: Book early and view the room in person before accepting the offer. Some prefer lower floors for convenience other prefer higher level floors for quieter reasons.

Dear Uma – Thank you for your comments and we are glad that you meet so many interesting people. Certainly the flags of the world are a great idea along with some board games. We have tried the darts, only to find that some tenants do not appreciate this facility and destroyed the darts and even the dart board. Regarding the cooking we have done our best in providing a safe cooking environment, not all of the tenants are a chef like you and to let them loose with gas could be disastrous to say the least. But we will certainly take all of your comments on-board.

Hello! I staid there for 4 month and half and during that time I really felt like in home. If you are traveling and working as me I am sure Internet is important for you, is the only way to keep us in contact with our family and St George Hotel has the fastest internet in New Zeland. Also, it has great facilities, a big kitchen with everthing you could need, it has two salon one for watch t.v, movies or play pool and the other one is used for partys, that is really cool you can celebrate your birthday with all your friends at home..
The best thing is that you are in center of town, close to markets, shops and pubs, Cuba street is only 5 min. by walk!!!

St. George is perfectly located in Wellington and offered me and my girlfriend nice place to stay during our 4,5 months exchange studies. Staff is really helpful and they seem to invest quite well to new stuff especially in kitchen which is always nice. Kitchen is sometimes quite small and dirty because a lot of people use it and not everyone cleans their own mess but we managed with it very well. (Learned even a couple of new recipes from others!) Room was also good with toilet and furniture. One minus is the poor insulation (bad windows) which made some nights pretty cold and the noices from street can be heard well inside. Overall St. George provided good value for money!

Dear Juho & Emma, Thank you for your comments. We do like to hear when people have enjoyed staying with us. Yes we know the windows are getting on a little and are in need of restoration. The Hotel was built in 1929 and most of the windows are still in original form, being listed as a Heritage building any work, must be done to maintain its original look - we will be working towards this. Regards Bruce

If you are looking for a place to live in Wellington for a few months, this is it! No need to stay in a dorm room in a noisy backpacker... We stayed there for two months and had a great time.
In St George you'll find great staff (thanks again Bruce&Young) and your own private bedroom with ensuite for a very reasonable price! If you are travelling by yourself you can also share a bedroom with another person. Everything is made for your comfort, the common kitchen is huge, washing machines are quite cheap and wifi is available if you have your own laptop. On top of all that we met great friends from all over the world in St George and had a lot of fun! If we ever go back to NZ we'll definately book there :)
